Does the MT get more mileage than the AT? How much mileage are you getting with yours? One thing I was disappointed with in all the cars I looked at, was they all got worse mileage than the car I drive now. The only real reason I would get rid of my car is simply because all the parts to repair it have been discontinued. If I'm already getting 31/38, why should I pay $15,000+ for a car that gets 27/31? (Ford Focus had that number on it. Ugh.)

You might want to check out the discussion here titled "Honda Fit MPG - Real World Numbers". There's a lot of posts from people with good and not so good things to say about mileage....just depends. But it might help give you a better idea of what some people are getting from their Fits.

Mine is an AT, and I'm averaging 33mpg overall, with 3500 miles on the car so far. I've only had it for a couple months, but I love it. Fortunately I live in an area (Detroit) where it doesn't seem to be quite as difficult to find one - then again, I haven't tried looking for a MT. Good luck with your search!

You won't get much, if any, better than 31/38mpg city/hwy with any new compact/subcompact. They're all rated in this range and the rest depends on your driving style. But they do have a lot better safety features, but if MPG is your primary issue, stick with what you have.

The automatic, I believe is rated a little better in the EPA gas mileage rating posted on the sticker. They are probably are about the same considering the automatic is a 5 speed automatic. The overall gas mileage I don’t know since I only put one tank in the car. That tank gave me 38.3 MPG mainly Hi-way driving. I’m down to a 1/4 of a tank and will soon find the outcome of the second tank.

I'd love to stick with what I have, but I can no longer buy parts for it, and it has no AC, no heat, no power anything, no safety features... It runs great and gets great mileage, but that's it. It's only a matter of time before something more major than the heat fails, and then I'm out of a car.

If I can get close to the 31/38 I get now (according to Honda.com, the Fit gets in that range), plus get safety features and nifty accessories at a reasonable price, I'm there! At this point I'm just waiting for an MT to test drive, and a few paychecks for the down payment.

You could probably get pretty good bucks to sell your car privately.

Look through autotrader.com and see what you find there.

You want the exact car that I have. I absolutely love it.

If someone close to you has an MT available for 19,000, you could always take it for a test drive and say no thanks to anything over MSRP. I know the honda dealer guy might think that is wasting the mans time, but, it is wasting the consumers time to seriously consider 19,000.

Do you mind telling me which dealer you went to? I went to fisher in ypsi and those guys refused to negotiate on the price. They want to sell it to be for 17k. It's my first time buying a car so I don't know if they were telling me the truth or just BS. I ended up putting a refundable deposit on a black MT. But I don't like black. Maybe a blue or silver would be better. I also noticed the fit has a lot of highway road noice, much more noticeable than my 1990 honda accord.

What to do in this situation? Do I have anything to bargain with in this case to get the price down lower?

You are the consumer, never settle for less than what you want and never for more than you want to pay. They have to make YOU happy if they want your business. Every dealer will try to sell you whatever he's got on the lot if he doesn't have what you want, just to make the sale and not lose it to someone else.

I finally found an MT to test drive while on a business trip to Richmond. It was an orange one, which I told the guy up front I had no intention of buying, I drove it, loved it, and the guy tried to sell it to me anyway. Well, for the $20,000 he wanted I wouldn't have bought it if it WAS the car I wanted!

My best price came in from Nelson Honda in Martinsville, of $15,765 plus free delivery to my door. When I have the money, I'll be calling them and see if I can shave a few bucks more off. There's no reason to pay thousands more than MSRP for any car, it's just extra money the dealer adds on for no reason, I've seen it listed on one sticker as 'Regional Adjustment'. Uh huh.

I ended up buying from Tamaroff Honda in Southfield. I wasn't thrilled with their customer service, but I got what I felt was a fair price. I went through their internet department first, and when their internet person contacted me, they quoted me a price $300 below MSRp right over the phone. I'm not sure if I would have gotten that if I'd just gone in without having inquired on their website first.

You might also want to try LaFontaine Honda in Dearborn. I also inquired through their web site, and the person that responded was very nice. He kept me informed about what was in stock all the time, and were willing to sell for MSRP. I didn't try to negotiate with them, so I'm not sure if they would have gone any lower or not.

There's not much bargaining power with the Fit, because the supplies are so low. Your best bet is to contact lots of places by phone or internet and see what the best price they'll give you is. It's possible to get a fairly decent price...just takes a lot of work. Good luck - let us know how things work out!

I went to suburban honda and acura in Novi and they gave me a OTD price of 16,940 or something as opposed to Fisher's 17,300. I went in telling them I had put a deposit down for the fit for 17,300 and if they could beat it. Is the 16,940 a good deal? Should I go for it?

It's a sport MT. Thanks.
