Lemon Law it and get you a real truck a GM Duramax. The Duramax, will out gun the F-350 anyways and will give you a well deserved fuel economy return. I'm reading all over of people getting in the 20's with their 07's

My new f-450 by floorz

2 weeks ago I took delivery of an 08 f-450 lariat diesel. I traded in a 04 f-350 king ranch disel short box single rear.

This new truck is excellent in many areas.

Interior noise is greatly improved

Turning radious is mind bogglingly tight for a truck this size. It turns circles inside of my old truck, and makes parking a breeze.

The side mirrors are the best I have ever seen. Power telescope and fold are awesome.

Towing, I pull a 15000 pound boat and you can forget it's back there. I have electric over hydraulic brakes and the brake controller seems to be working fine.

The ride is phenomal for such a large truck, but go slow on speed bumps or you could bust a molar.

Now my big complaint... This thing sucks fuel!
On my first drive not towing it dropped in performance on the highway? It got 8 mpg at 75 mph. My old truck got 17-18 at 75 to 80 mph. Average driving I am only getting 9.5 mpg. I have about 700 miles on the truck. My dealer won't give me a straight answer weather or not this is normal. He says it's not broken in and they have not sold any others yet. When I tow my boat I get between 4 and 6 mpg, this is ridiculous! If any of you have this truck let me know what kind of performance you are getting. By the way I have the tow package with the 4.88 rear end.

I still love this truck but somthing has gotta give with the fuel consumption.
Thanks, jb

It's the 4.88s that are killing you. The 4.30s would have given you better fuel economy, but would have put you close to your GCWR with the boat. Kind of a trade-off there.

Just go my F-350 King Ranch. $65,000 truck here is Canada.

I have 900km on it, and it is going back. I dont care how much of a loss they hit me with...it is a complete travesty that Ford have allowed a vehicle (especially a diesel) to leave their factory getting a little over 8Miles to the Gallon. My 440-six pack gets around 13Miles to the Gallon.

Please, if you are considering buying this truck I highly advise you to think again, unless you dont care about the fuel economy (of course I love the interior, the look...etc)

Someone needs to be hung over this. Throw a hull underneath it and it would still be bad even by boat standards.

What p's me off even more is that I spent thousands upgrading tires, rino-lining the box, torno cover.....and now it is going back!

completely disappointed. My 2003 had twice as good mileage.

Another complete bunch of B.S is all those car web-sites that are obviously being paid off by big vehicle companies...how did NONE of them pick up on this.

Dont let this one go to rest guys...if you own this truck, go ballsitic at whomever sold it to you...it is Fords mistake, now they have to pay for it.

start making noise..get posting. Aside from the obvious money issues (diesle is over $4 USD a Gallon in canada)I dont feel like stopping for fuel every 200 Miles on a road trip...screw that.

"On the open freeway, there was little to indicate the F-450 was towing at all. The tongue weight settled out the ride quality, though the rig's fifth-wheel hook-up no doubt damped most of the tail-wagging-the-dog effect. The powertrain just hummed along, seemingly oblivious to the small house leeched to its backside. Our fuel economy over the course of towing 520 miles (including our hill sprints) averaged 6.3 mpg."

2008 Ford F-450 Engine Problem
We have owned our 2008 F-450 for 3 months now and just found out the engine is goverened somewhere between 80 and 85 mph. Ford does not advertise nor willingly inform anyone about this. This is very misleading to their truck buyers. Ford needs to fix this problem or purchase the vehicle back. If you ever have or need to drive faster then 80 mph do not buy a 2008 Ford Diesel engine. It's hard to believe they would not inform their consumers about this engine constraint. When we asked, we were told by the service department that it was manufactured/programmed into the vehicle's computer for EPA reasons and could not be altered. It's been suggested that they could fix this with a software update, but corporate will not acknowledged the problem.

We haul horses as well, and I do not like the sensation of driving and feeling the engine falter at 82 mph, and am concerned now with this potential problem occuring while hauling at slower speeds. This engine should have stayed in the factory until they were certain it functioned properly. I think I'd like my F350 back...

I think they do that for liabilty reasons. I don't think you can get speed rated tires in the F-450 load range that are good for more than ~80 mph.

Hate to have a tire let go while pulling a horse trailer.

It is well known to the sales staff at my dealer that the F-450 is governed to 85 mph. This is due to the limitations of the commercial truck tires that are used. This is even one of the questions on the certification test the sales reps take.

Personally I think you should be arrested for public endangerment and animal cruelity for attempting to drive that big a rig that fast.

I also just purchased the same truck approximately 3 weeks ago. Also, I pull a 4 stall horse trailer with living quarters (14,000 lbs). On this 4000+ mile trip, I got absolutely horrible mileage at an average of 6.6 miles to the gallon. During this trip the check engine light continue to come on and we would have to stop to let the engine cool. I only averaged between 60-70 miles per hour on all interstates through the 14 states we drove through. In addition, on the last leg of this extremely expensive trip, a very loud noise began to sound from directly under the middle of the truck. A loud metallic spinning sound occurred and I lost all capability to accelerate the vehicle. I was able to cost to the side of the interstate with the trailer in tow and that was the end of any further movement with this brand new, two week old 2008 F-450 Diesel truck. The Ford dealer had to drive to Kentucky to tow my new truck and neighbors drove up to gather us and our trailer. I had a F-350 which got much better mileage and did not fail me on the many interstate trips I must make with my business. I have yet to make even the first payment. My faith in reliability is non existent with this vehicle. With the sticker price, the fuel expenses and the fact that this is a brand new vehicle, I should not have to worry about my safety when on the highway in this vehicle.
