| Hi: My wife and I are about to buy a slide on and we are having a hard time with the right vehicle to haul it with. I have always heard Dodge with the cummings was the best. I dont want the new Ford 350/450 because all I read about is TROUBLE with the engine. I dont know that much about the Duramax. The camper we will be placing in the truck bed is about 5200lbs when everything is said and done. My question is; will a 3500 be enough truock for us? We plan to go out for about 2-3 months at a time, come home for about 2 months and go out again for 2-3 months and continue that cycle. Any help would be appreaciated. Thanks Bob M | |

| I've had my 450 King Ranch dually for approx. 4 months with a little over 5k miles on it. The mileage is terrible. I get between 8-10 combined mileage unloaded. I got 6-7mpg. pulling a 5000 lb. trailer. My other truck is a dually crewcab 03 Ford with a V-10. It gets 12-13 mpg. My dealer had it for over a week and they told me everything is in "spec". Why isn't Ford addressing this issue. Edmonds doesn't even mention milage in it's revue. It's great that this is such a clean burning diesel but mileage is also important. Chevy's diesel gets 16-20 mpg. according to owners I've spoken to. If I hadn't already added a liftgate and diamond plate in the bed, I'd be asking Ford to take it back. Ford-Please help those of us who are loyal to the blue oval! | |

You purchased a truck with a GVW of 14,500 lbs a curb weight of 8,600 pounds (Yes thats 4 tons), and a towing capacity (5th wheel) of 22,000 pounds to tow a 5,000 trailer. BLINK BLINK. I hope you aren't a Doctor, you would probably do brain surgery with a chain saw. The F-450 is a COMMERCIAL vehicle. IT WEIGHTS MORE EMPTY than the GVW of a an F-150. If you don't need this kind of truck but buy one anyway, you have only yourself to blame for the fuel economy. Mark |

Listen to Mark, he's a ford salesman so you know his opinion is unbiased. He doesn't own the truck, he just belittles anyone who is upset about the outrageously poor mileage this truck gets. His favorite line is "you don't need a truck like this", I would love to see him use that one on the lot. BLINK BLINK Even if Goldman1 was a doctor, I doubt he could pull your head out of your ass! 13,000 miles on an f-450 and still 9 miles to the gallon, yeah I'm tired of your rhetoric. |

Ford should never have made such a heavy duty pickup track that rides so well, is so quiet and so comfortable that people who test drive it forget that this is NOT A GROCERY GETTER but something tough enough to TOW SEVERAL TONS MORE than the nearest competition. As a sales person, my messages is Do Not Buy an F-450 if you don't need that tough a truck. Thats all. People are complaining that it gets lower fuel econ than much lighter less robust trucks from GM/Dodge. But thats not an apples to apples comparison. Next time you see your landscaper drive by in his F-450 Dump, ask him what kind of milage he gets. Ask the tow truck driver what kind of MPG he gets. Ask the Ambulance driver what kind of MPG he gets. Did I mention that this truck WEIGHTS 8600 pounds! Thats about the same as 2.5 Fusions. hmmm Double the weight, half the fuel economy. Is there a relationship? With the heavy tow package, this truck has a 4.88LS rear. Thats something you see on COMMERCIAL TRUCKS! Mark |

| Just to set the record straight, I'm not a doctor. I am however the owner of a metals recycling company. I have rented many large trucks and have owned 6 Ford dually crew cab F-350's. Although this is definately a heavier duty truck, no one at my dealership bothered to discuss with me the poorer mileage of this 450 vs my V-10's. I know this is heavier, is a twin turbo diesel and is used mainly commercially. However I have a power lift gate on it and often haul 8-10 55-gallon drums with scrap in them. They can weigh upwards of 5000 lbs. If this truck was going to "radically change" my mileage, the Ford salesman should have informed me. In addition, I've spoken to many new owners and some who have already gotten rid of their new F-450 due to the mileage. Many of them tow trailers with a 5th wheel attached. All of them would now prefer a Chevy or a Dodge. This is a great truck, but the mileage "sucks!" | |
