On this 4000+ mile trip, I got absolutely horrible mileage at an average of 6.6 miles to the gallon. During this trip the check engine light continue to come on and we would have to stop to let the engine cool. I only averaged between 60-70 miles per hour on all interstates through the 14 states we drove through. In addition, on the last leg of this extremely expensive trip, a very loud noise began to sound from directly under the middle of the truck. A loud metallic spinning sound occurred and I lost all capability to accelerate the vehicle. I was able to cost to the side of the interstate with the trailer in tow and that was the end of any further movement with this brand new, two week old 2008 F-450 Diesel truck. The Ford dealer had to drive to Kentucky to tow my new truck and neighbors drove up to gather us and our trailer. I had a F-350 which got much better mileage and did not fail me on the many interstate trips I must make with my business. I have yet to make even the first payment. My faith in reliability is non existent with this vehicle. With the sticker price, the fuel expenses and the fact that this is a brand new vehicle, I should not have to worry about my safety when on the highway in this vehicle. i bought a 08 f450 crew cab dulley 4x4 lariat. last week and the steering has been a isue and the tail end slides around on the freeway. it has 150 miles on it . what happened to your truck on the free way? i tow a 18000 pound fith wheel to the deasert and its a lot of up hill's. please let me know. sam Replies to this message: tpaine (Sep 04, 2007 6:29 am)

Wish I could attach my Dino testing report for my truck. Ford claims this truck has 350 hp and 650 ft-lbs of torque. Well this is not the case with my truck the best it could do was 155 hp 3150RPM and 271 ft-lbs torque. Replying to: floorz (May 07, 2007 9:11 am) This truck does suck fuel....not to mention no power power to pull a 32ft fifth wheel. No help from the Ford dealer or Ford Engineers as of yet! I take it back in on Monday....will be interesting to see what they come up with. How ever they do know that I will be taking it back to the dino to see what improvement they have or haven't made on Hp and torque. Fuel is about 9.9mpg at best!

On a recent trip keeping speeds under 75mph the best I could do was about 9mpg. around town I get about 9.9. Towing my boat still gets about 5 to 6mpg. I still love this truck but come on ford, what's up with this mileage? I would love to be able to put a chip on it to increase mileage but we know ford's stance on that one. Check your window sticker. Most of the F-450s are shipping with the 4.88 LS rear end as it is standard. This is a commercial truck ratio and offers towing power beyond any other factory pickup's wildest dreams. AND it sacrafices fuel econ to get it. Replying to: mschmal (Jul 29, 2007 6:18 am) Mark, I have the 4.88. Before I spent money on a new rear end I would want to see some true mileage figures with the 4.1 axle. Do you know of any? As I stated in an earlier post, I tow a 14,000lb boat. The 4.88 axle is the only way to get the tow package on this truck, brakes etc. jb

If you are considering an F-450 with available 5th wheel towing of 24,000 pounds and a GCWR of 33,000 pounds!!! You need to understand that you buying a COMMERCIAL vehicle. This is a truck for peeps who cannot meet their towing needs with a lesser truck. An F-350 Diesel DRW 4x4 Crew Cab offers 17,700 pounds of Fifth wheel towing with the TowBoss 4.3 LS rear and 15,200 pounds of fifth wheel towing with the 4.1 rear. Granted it is recommended that you do not exceed 85% of a truck's GCWR on a regular basis; however, if you purchased an F-450 to tow 14,000 pounds of boat a couple of times per year then I can't help but wonder if you would think it a good idea to take a bazooka rabbit hunting.
