Thank you both for your suggestions. I did buy an extended warranty. I don't use my car early in the morning (I work a night shift)so it is fairly warm outside when I first start out the car. But I will let it run awhile and see what happens.

I can't lemon law it until they have worked on the problem 3 times and tried to repair it. This is what I was told about the gas tank noise. First they will replace the tank, if that doesn't work they will rip the trunk apart, if that doesn't stop the noise they will rip the back seat out if that doesn't stop the noise I might be able to get a new car. But I don't see that happening because they won't even take the car in to service it now for the noise because they say there is nothing they can do about it until Toyota finds a fix for it.

As far as the transmission they have kept the car over the weekend. But I can assure you what the response to my problems will be and that is that they can't duplicate it. Although the service manager told me that there are defective valves that need to be replaced in a lot of the transmissions.

I am still trying to get the TV station that I work at to do a story on all the Toyota problems and I next plan to contact the owner of the dealership where I bought the car. So we will see what happens. I want them to buy the car back and give me my money back because I surely do not want any other Toyota at this point.

I also have a 07 XLE V6 and have had just about every problem addressed by TSB not modified on the assembly line. I have had a transaxle replaced, 4 brake rotors replaced, 4 way alignment, and a host of rattles and minor issues. One thing I have not expeienced and have not heard anyone else mention is the gas tank problem. That one sounds like you got lucky with a one off.

The reason that Edmunds forum doesn't contain more posts about the issues probably isn't an indicator of their frequency. The demographic for the Camry isn't one that frequents the Internet or Internet chat and forums. I have been reading forums where college students and a more technical bunch frequent, and there have been many reports of common issues. Speaking to Toyota corporate and my dealer indicated that there have been a larger than normal amount of problems with the new model.

Best advice is keep taking it back to the dealer and call Toyota. Tell them you want a buyback. If you qualify under your state's lemon law, ask for arbitration. Make sure you keep all documentation and document as a follow up any phone conversations.

Go to arbitration. You can go to arbitration prior to filing under the lemon-law. Call Toyota USA, explain your problem(s), and if they can't or won't fix the issue(s), then tell them you would like to go to arbitration. There is no cost to you and the decision is binding for Toyota but if you do not like the results, you can pursue other action.

In order to improve FE and reduce unsprung weight the brake rotors have been being made with less metal/weight. That results in less ability to shred heat quickly when the brakes are used, especially somewhat continuously, even lightly.

Now with most cars equipped with DBW, e-throttles, I don't understand why the manufacturers don't put a stop to people riding the brake continuously with their left foot. Keep the engine at idle regardless of footfeed position if the brakes are applied.

Not pointing fingers at anyone here just responding to the number of high mount brake lights on with the car cruising merrily along as I drive to work each day.

I didn't know about the lighter rotors, but it makes perfect sense. I drive mainly hwy miles and don't ride the brakes, but it may explain a few things. I brought my car into the dealer for a pull and slight shimmy both when the brakes are applied and when driving at hwy speed. The dealer did a 4 way alignment and replaced all 4 rotors. I'm not sure if they needed to be replaced, but the problem is gone.

Oh no. Not that ole GM Rotor problem again. I won arbitration on an early 90s Camry. Bad Paint... They gave me back all my money including finance charges.
This is my first Camry /sedan, coming off trucks and hatch backs. The buy back Camry was the wifes.
I got the 07 LE becaues I needed someting a little quieter on wind and road noise because I listen to a lot of MP-3 and have in the past had to crank it up on the road just to hear the music. So far so good after 2 months and I am very picky. You might say I bought their radio and had to get their car too because it came with the radio. I love the steering controls especially. Good Base - solid MP3.
Good Luck!

I read your post about the shimmy and you having the rotors replaced. My 07 LE V6 also has the shimmy. Im going on a long trip in June and need it fixed by then. My car just shakes at speeds over 30-40mph. More noticeable on highway. Im driving from PA to NY then up to Marthas Vineyard then back to NY, then back to PA. going to be at least 1500 miles in a week.
Hope they can fix it.
