Very detailed and informative. Ive never been a huge fan of Top Fuel racing but I have to give respect where its due. I dont mind drag racing at all but I prefer something I can drive to the track, perform a few adjustments, race, reverse the adjustments, then drive home. Nothing better than a good street car!

Problem with a street car at the track, means you can't push it to 10/10th at the track because you'll have to drive it home. It's cool to do a few HPDEs but after a few you'll want a more dedicated track car, in my opinion.

I was not aware that compression ratios were adjusted between rounds for power adjustment. I saw John Forces crew between rounds at Route 66, four guys were walking away with the body before the car even stopped. Only eight runs on a $5000 crankshaft, impressive. Awesome article, check out the new discussion in the classic cars forum: muscle car bench racing. . .

I remember Lions Drag Strip in So.Cal. 1969 and we could hold the chainlink fence 5 feet from the rollers that spun the slicks to start the engines.671 blowers were flying like frisbees every Sat.night.I'm 54 now and had the pleasure to watch the qualifying at the new Z Max Dragway in Concord N. Carolina this weekend.I was giggling like a 5 year old.I don't remember my chest caving in when they lit those old Hemi's.WOW. That has to be as close to destruction as any man made machine could possibly be.Most of the crowd seemed so, so, I don't know....bored.Maybe they had no idea of what it means to keep these things contained in their Kevlar blankets.John Force had a grandstand named after him.I couldn't help but wonder how long he's gonna limp as he climbs into his hot rod.I wish Mario or maby A.J would talk to him.
