My father has an '01 X5 and he totally luvs it. He loves they shape and the power that it has. It wouldn't trade it for nothing else. I myself really luv the new x5. It just looks clean and smooth.

The Q7's interior is nice but power's lacking. Even the v8 isn't enough for it's size & it is a gas killer. It's a bit sloppy too, I guess the size attributes to that. It is a good family SUV though like the GX & I agree that the GS is getting old (4th yr). I've always like Audi's styling but it's reliability has always pushed me away from this brand. I test drove/attempted to buy the TT & the A4 but complains about it pushed me away.

yeah i was worried about reliability too but so far it hasnt been that bad. the power is kinda lacking...i dont know why...it is surprising. i think its why you said because of the extra size and length, but i think that the handling is really great considering its the size of a tahoe and sequoia. the only thing that is remotley close to it is the mercedes gl in that size class. The styling is really my favorite part of the car. If they brought the v12 here that would be a sweet car! too bad it wont be here for a while. mabie you might want to look at an fx45 too...but theyre styling isnt for everyone. i think the old x5 4.8is is a really nice car too, but if you want new that probably isnt an option...

i read some articles abt cayenne, here it is, which says...

THE TURBO IS AS SURREAL IS EVER. IT IS SERIOUSLY FAST,A

ALL THE WHILE ACCOMPANIED BY A HARD-EDGED, BENT EIGHT BEAT.

MANY BUYERS WILL PICK THE SLIGHTLY CHEAPER CAYENNE S.

Only the v6 disappoints. Encounter a hill or a cabin-full of persons and baggages, and you'll need to nail the throttle to maintain progress. this entry level is too noisy

I heard that Cayenne V6 is not a real Porsche engine, but a Volkswagen one instead. Can anybody confirm that?

I was just about ready to buy the 08 Cayenne but my wife said the Cayanne looks more femenine than the X5!! Im currious what other opinions are and which car is really better? The thing that drives me nuts about the X5 is its lack of styling (such as black plastic bumpers) whereas the Cayanne is very nicely appointed. Any help much appreaciated thanks!!!

A lot of people say the opposite. The Cayenne is more of a man's car. Test drive both & she'll change her opinion of it. The Cayenne is typical of a Porsche, more emphasis on performance than convenience & comfort. The BMW is more practical specially if you have a family. The V6 is a Volks block but the design from exhaust to fuel inject was engineered/designed by Porsche. My uncle is a gold meisster tech at POrsche (forgive me if I misspelled his title).

I was back and forth between X5 and Cayenne before I finally decided to get the Cayenne. My wife loves the styling of the Cayenne. She is not into automotive but the Cayenne motivated her to do a lot of internet searching.
I test drove the X5 4.8 and 3.0 one week apart and I didn't quite like the 3.0 after the 4.8.

Went to Porsche dealership to test drive the Cayenne S and I like it a lot, better handling than the X5 in my option. Almost got the Cayenne S but decided to test drive the base model Cayenne as well. Found that the handling is almost the same as the Cayenne S apart from acceleration. I found the Cayenne V6 acceleration is good enough for my need, I'm way past the stage in my life for out right acceleration!
I cannot justify spending $10K more just for the acceleration so I ended up getting the V6.

Picked the car up 1 week ago and I've more fun driving it than my 06 Audi A4. Engine noise is little bit louder than X5 when it acceleration but it is a nice Porsche sound!
Yes, the Cayenne has less tech stuff than X5. I'm a high tech guy working in the silicon valley and in general I'm looking for latest high tech stuff but in this case I look for performance rather than tech stuff. What I care most is iPod and bluetooth and both of them you can find an after market part.

As for price, I got a good discount roughly 10% off MSRP for the Cayenne but I cannot got a good deal for X5. The best offer I got was $1500 off MSRP and most BMW dealer has heavily loaded car in stock, to get just what we need, we have to build it and it takes a long time to build.

By the way, I don't have kids so 7 seats and cargo room is not a big concern.
