I looked at both closely (back in '06) and went with the Cayenne. It seemed to have more serious SUV intentions. Porsche didn't leave off-roading out of the equation. If you're leaning toward the X5, better check out the new Acura MDX, which was favored by the folks at Roundel, BMWs car club magazine.

Well the cayenne i always liked it, but cayenne is kind of l
like a sports car, sports car engine sound..

and x5 is i what i think but not sure a bit more smooth ride

How long does bmw bring next generation cars 7 years???

i think porsche r 4years rite????

Whenever i see people driving their cayenne it looks more like an expensive car like a muscle car i think that cayenne gives u more confidence while driving how does it feel while driving agt high speed stable?????.And does any1 know how does the new x5 feel while driving in high speeds?.

x5 i really dont know what to say abt it doesn't its not as exciting as a cayenne i think well thats just m opinion...but i think im liking the x5 more or the cayenne gettin confused!!!!!

Well, I did not say that Porsche is the worst, but among worst, and I said that was what I heard. And this was stated for reliability, not the performance and handling. Considering the performance and handling, I was present at the introduction of the old X5 on the track, which was driven by a professional driver to show that it was almost impossible to upset balance-wise, while the others were pretty easy to be upset. This was done by having a quick lane change at about 50 mph, and every other SUV except X5 was dangerously trying to topple (i.e., would go on driving only on 2 wheels). At that time, there was no Cayenne, so such a comparison was not possible; as much as I can remember, I believe the other 2 SUVs were Lexus 420 (or whatever number they have) and Benz ML 320. I would be pretty willing to accept that Cayenne's handling is very good as well.

The CAyenne handles better than the X5. That's one thing that anyone who'll test these 2 will agree on. The BMW's are given the title of the "ultimate driving machine" & we all agree with that. Most or all of their cars will beat their counterparts from compact to fullsize sedans to SUV's in the handling dept., but Porsches are on a level above the BMW's, MB's, etc. Porsches are compared to Ferraris, Lambos, etc. Read Edmunds review on the previous Cayenne Turbos handling were they commented that the Cayenne's handling #'s even exceeded the previous M3's #'s. That's very impressive condisering the M3's one of BMW's best. Of course the Cayenne Turbo had that adaptive suspension on it but even if it didn't it'll still be probably as good as a Bimmer w/ a sport package.. AS they say "There's no Substitute" for a Porsche.. Tomorrow will probably be the day...Thanks for your input...

most bimmers are redesigned every 7 yrs. porsche's 7 too but they do facelift, hp changes, etc. depends on the model. Cayenne's 4 yrs., Boxster was released on 97 wasn they did changes on hp or headlight lenses, etc. and finally did a redesign on 2005. Same as the Carrera, from 99-01 same body style but changes in hp & some options, 02model year to 04 (996) seems the same as the 99-01 but with different headlights. The 997 looks like the same body as 996 but is actually wider and looks better, more of the classic design.

I went to the BMW dealer SAturday to do the deal. Their knocking off $ 2k+ on the X5 but I walked away bec. they're $1.5k short on my trade. They wouldn't budge, underestimated me. They know it's my final choice so they thought that they already got me. I'm not gonna pay a dealer $1.5k just to get rid of my HOnda Pilot that's just 2 yrs old & in great shape. I'm not that desperate. I'm not gonna call them back even if they're the only one in the area that has a SPace gray on their lot.

Anyway went to a Lexus dealer on my way home & drove the GX470. NIce family SUV & probably the most practical choice bec of it's comfort & rock solid reliability. I also got tempted to test drive the GS & LS. That LS is one heck of a car. It's one that I'd drive when I'm tired of these sporty feeling vehicles.

Right now I don't know what's gonna happen. Taked to the Porsche salesman & told me that he just got an 05 Carrera with 9k mi & the sticker is at $65k. He had me drive one when I was looking at their Cayenne awhile ago.

Should I just get rid of my Lexus & keep the Honda as the family car ? Get either a used Carrera or a new LS ?? I'm now more confused than ever..
