#108 of 117 Don't think it is wise to purchase extended warranty right away
Nov 03, 2010 (9:18 am)
I purchased a Honda CR-V in July and was told by the dealer that I had until 8000 miles to purchase HondaCare warranty. Went by last night with 7000 miles on my car and was told that HondaCare only sells to autos with 6000 or less, but I could buy the dealer's recommended warranty for 5 year/75,000 miles for $1095. When I balked, he came down to $995. I went home and started researching since my car already has warranty for 3 years/36,000 miles, that would be over $500 year for the remainder. I found this great article to share. http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2008/03/cr_warranties.htmlI've decided to wait until my other warranty starts to run out and then purchase!!!!!! Who knew they made so much money on warranties?

But the HondaCare warranty is still a better value than the third-party warranty when purchased before the 6000 mile expiration. It's cheaper and is backed by the manufacturer itself.

Just purchased a Hondacare policy from Saccucci for 8 yr/120K/0 deductible for a new 2012 Odyssey for $1295. I live in CA and it was not a problem. Was quoted $2695 from the CA dealer for the same exact policy !!!

Big thanks to this forum. I got some online quotes and saved myself about $1300. The finance guy was pretty stumped when I pulled out quotes from 3 different dealers that were way less than he was. Wish I would've know about this when I bought my Pathfinder in 08, I looked in my paperwork at paid $2700 for the extended warranty at the dealer, ouch!

What are some of the items / issues you thought would have been covered under Honda Care but are not? Looking for small print or undisclosed pitfalls....
Also, when you have a problem with your car that has Honda Care, how easy is it to use or get service?
Anyone on here have Honda Care and never had to use it? I had an Acura Integra for 15 years which only needed maintenance; no other problems. Still debating whether an extended warranty it is a good buy for a Honda. The fact that it covers replacement tires from flats/blowouts, may sell me on it...

You have to pay up from tear down or diagnostics. You may or may not get reimburse. My car is sitting right now in the dealer with a major engine issue. It has 58 k on it and motor is blowen. Honda said replace motor but I am 4 months out of factory warranty. So my Honda care is all I have.they take a different approach they want engine torn down and have an inspector to look at car. They are looking for a reason not to pay essentially is how I feel. It looks good on first glance but read the fine print.

I live in SoCal. I emailed 3 pages of Honda dealers listed on the Honda site near me for a quote on my late model Accord. One of the sorriest experiences I've had on trying to spending this much cash.
I either didn't get an answer, got a canned automated message about selling me a car, or they tried to get my number and ask me to come into dealer. I received only a few quotes from local dealers via email and they were $300-$400 more than what I purchased from Saccucci.
Here is the quote from Saccucci:
•Vehicles with 12,001 miles up to 24,000 miles on odometer. Please add a $50 surcharge.
•Vehicles with 24,001 miles up to 36,000 miles on odometer. Please add a $100 surcharge.
These plans start on contract purchase date(additional time), and 0 miles on odometer.
Example: A G38 plan will expire 3 years from contract purchase date, or when the odometer hits 80,000 miles.
