I pulled the trigger on December 31, 2008 when they offered my 31K and no destination for a fully load 2008 LR2 (41,400.00 list). I got Low Jack and the tire/brake/rim warranty for another 1K. The car has 800 miles. Store owner drove it for a few days. Color blue with alpaca interior. Good price? No where around here would even try to get close. Baltimore, Maryland

2008 LR2-Pending Purchase by rocknroll389

Hi, hopefully someone can respond but I know these boards aren't frequented often. I have 2 choices for a possible purchase and some advice would be great:

#1: Offer for a Demo 08 LR2 HSE model with cold climate package, 10,000 miles, for $26,000.

#2: Demo 08 LR2 HSE with cold climate, technology, and bluetooth packages, 8,000 miles, $29,000
Which one should I go for (is the nav system and upgraded audio worth it?) and are these pretty good deals or should I strive to get lower? Thanks in advance.

Paid $27125 + tax & fees for a total of $29.9K for a New 2009 LR2 HSE. Sticker was exactly 10K more at $37125. No miles on the car.

Go for the #2 for sure! little less miles and the upgrades are worth it! Sound system is killer.

2008. 09. 2010? This LR model confuses me. by nickr1

Hi, what is the current model LR2 for sale? Is it 2009? Are there any new 2008s? Or new 2010s? Are 2010s coming soon? What is the standard lease deal for these 3 years, if indeed all three years are available for lease? The new Sport and RR and LR3 seem to have a lot of changes coming this year, what about the LR2, I barely hear it mentioned? Why is that?

I find Land Rover prices, especially the LR2, incredibly complicated and anything but standard across the board, especially the lease, which seems to change from dealer to dealer and from month to month. I also notice, that even though this is their entry level model and competes with suv's like the Jeep and the Ford Edge, it seems they never have lease incentives or sales or anything that reduces the price. I was offered an 09 for $637 a month with 3.5k down, what? That's insane.

The dealers (in NY) also act like the car is in great demand, yet I almost never see any on the road. I live in a tony area (Westchester) and I see tons of Sports and RR's, but rarely any LR2s. So, why does it seem like they are not selling, and that LR doesn't care? Is this my imagination, or are they actually cheap and a good deal, and tons of people buy and drive them? Seriously, this is a confusing marketing plan, and a weird deal for what should be a straightforward car, economical car. I think it may have the worst lease deal in auto history, for it's base price, can you think of one similar suv that has a worse lease deal?

Also, does Land Rover, for an LR2, honor the cash for clunkers program?

Thanks if you know.

Read your post. At dealer over the weekend in NJ. First, lease is not happening with this car right now. they want you to buy, that is where the incentive is right now. It is zero APR up to 48 months. you want to lease, than the Sport is where the discount is because there is a new model in 2010, I think. Second, I think the Lr2 is price right but it does lack the plush compare to other small SUV. Lexus, Audi, Benz, Bmw, Volvo. I was quoted invoice at $ 38k for a $ 41k 09' LR2. Buying the car with zero interest is not bad compare to other lease deals on all of the other brand name cars. You are in the mid 6's along with inception fees for another $ 1500 to $ 2000 and get nothing at the end of the lease. Third, my problem is the reliability of this car ? my sister had the Lr3 and was at the service all the time for minor issues. She was so happy when the lease was up and got a MDX. This car came out in 08' and there are no records yet of issues ? I like the look exterior wise but a bit short on the interior. Have not decided yet, will see if the Q5 have dropped in price or more incentives for Aug before I buy. Also, the LR2 has the lowest power of all the others too ! and gas mileage not better. Thanks, but why don't they want you to lease it, all the other car dealers have no problem with leases? They want you to lease the Sport, what's the problem with the LR2?

You're right, the Sport lease is okay for such a nice car, but I had an 03 Freelander (former LR2) and it was $27,000, so go figure. It really looks to me like LR tried to up the ante on the Freelander by changing it's name, it's headlights and it's price. But consumers are far too savvy these days and do too much shopping. It's clear to me that the BMW, the Audi and Infiniti have nicer looking and better performing suv's for the same price.

You do not know the LR2 at all. There is not one component from the Freelander in the LR2. The engine and chassis was co developed with Volvo. In fact, the front seating is the same as the Sport has. If you had followed automotive finance news in the last 2 years, you would know that leasing is not nearly as attractive as years gone by. Many banks including GMAC and Chrysler got out of leasing completely. It does not get the update that the other LRs did because it is newer. In fact, it already has some of the updates the other models are getting. Drive it, learn it, then make comments.
