#1 of 4 New Express Duramax Smoking
by uglyduck

I just bought a new 2006 express van with a duramax deisel. When it had just over 1500 miles on it it started smoking periodically. It started with a small loaded trailer hooked uo at around 70 mph. Now it seems that it will smok at any time. Big clouds of white smoke. Or heavy black smoke. Its at the dealer now for the 2nd time and they can't figure out whats wrong. Any Ideas will be helpful. I know this shouldn't happen because I had an 03 silverado with same engine and that didn't smoke at all.

black smoke reasons: - oil leaks to cilinder cam (inspect level). or turbocharger problems.
white smoke: sometimes on old engines cilinderhead gasket could leak with cooling fluid. fluid mix with oil(also check oil level, this case could be higher than usual.)

my engine is doing somthing similar on my 90 gmc sierra all though when i checked my oil i found small beads of what looked like water based glue and beads of water on the dipstick.... i guess im courious if the coolent (im assuming which is leaking into the oil could slowly be leaking through an improperly seated spark plug....? i literally just bought this truck a week ago and am pissed at the guy who sold it to me for replacing the oil just before i looked at it and then lying about it. and mad at myself for beleiving him
but basically being mad wont do the truck any good... so i also wanna know is running the engine to trouble shoot going to cause me a more problems than sitting it untill i get a diagnostics?

the reason i mention the oil, however it may be leaking in, if it is even doing this, is because i noticed a slight tinge of blue to the white smoke this morning when i started it.... basically when the problem was first noticed as more than just a tiny cloud of white smoke that was hard to decipher from chilly morning exhaust
