Well, your personal experience certainly trumps what I can observe from the outside. If it's the case that Ford calls all the shots, then Ford has been kind to Mazda (and to Volvo). They have allowed Mazda to retain their own brand image. As a result, Mazda is doing fairly well especially overseas. This is in contrast to what GM did to Saab.

I meant they have taken a hit in reliability surveys, although I haven't done a thorough review of that. And, of course, reliability surveys can be difficult to digest and dissect. That's just my general impression.. mostly from CR and JD powers. Overall, Mazdas seem to be fairly reliable but they don't look so hot in JD powers survey and in several models in CR.

In the press, their cars have been recieved with glowing reviews. Well, except in Europe.

This one seems to think Mazda's are the most reliable..

Management/customer care seems to be your biggest beef with Ford owning Mazda (owning controlling interest).
For you, what defines Ford's management style vs. the Japanese way?
Do you have examples of these different styles of management (an example from Ford, an example from a Japanese automaker)?
Do you have examples of how Mazda has changed (before and after pictures)?

Since you are the op in this thread, you clearly wanted to talk about something, but I don't think most people are sure what that is exactly. Nevertheless, I think the dynamic between Ford and Mazda is an interesting subject and was wondering what you were thinking.

It has been a very good partnership for both companies... Your correct that ford has allowed Mazda's image to stand on its own and in return they have proven their worth to Ford in a big way....not only sales but product development, engineering and manufacturing. From the dealer operations standpoint mazda has been making changes over the past few years into doing things the "ford way"...Time will tell if that was a good idea.
