CX9 - too expensive with option by 23109vc

We test drove several CX-9s at our local dealer. We were cross shopping the MDX and RX350 and considered the CX9 to see if we could get as much utility with less money. We found the base model "sport" to feel extremely cheap. the only one that felt "luxurious" was the Grand Touring model and it was priced at almost $40k fully loaded. I picked up a 2007 MDX tech for $43k. for the 3k difference, the MDX is leaps and bounds better. if you buy this car, get the cheap one and enjoy it for the utility. if you want utility AND luxury, get an MDX.

Yes, buy a MDX if you want lower gas mileage, a smaller interior volume, a larger turning radius and 3rd seat legroom for 5 year olds and younger.

Also you can buy a loaded CX-9 for invoice or less so an out the door price s/b ~$36,000 + TTL. And you save on TTL with a less expensive car also.

Why stop at a MDX? why not step up to a ML500?? It might make the MDX look good.

This is hard to compare: the MDX TECH does not have rear seat DVD, but has the sunroof. You didn't specify if you choose the loaded GT with the sunroof, or with the rear seat DVD. I will assume you compared the CX-9 with the sunroof (MDX with TECH and ENT goes for nearly $46k).

The CX-9 also has:
1. keyless entry and ignition
2. power liftgage
3. rain sensing wipers
4. 6-speed transmission

Not sure what these features are worth to you, but would likely add $1k to the price of the Acura. So the real net difference here is probably about $4k.

I just test drove the CX9, and then the Audi Q7 at the same dealer in Oakland. I did the exact same 15 mile loop.
Mazda(similarly equipped to the AUDI) 3.5 L V6 rides and drives better for $20k less. 0-60 is 7.7 sec. v. 10.0 for Audi with 3.6L. Audi weighs 1000 lbs more, and 3rd row seat is less roomy and tougher to reach. People should look at them side by side! I drove the Edge and frestyle an hour before...Not bad, but not up to this caliber performance, fit and finish.Zoom!

CX9 AWD GT competes head-to-head with the Audi Q7 for $20k less similarly equipped! 0-60=7.7 v. 10.0 in Q7. They are the closest 2 out there in Crossover Land. Zoom! I drove them back to back on the exact same 15 mile loop, at 80 on fwy and 3 miles on hwy. Mazda engineers should be proud. If Infiniti is the "Japanese BMW", Mazda is the same competitor to Audi.
Audi's are nice but their fans have to pay too much for that performance.

Best Mini-Van Ever... by sranger

I just got a loaded AWD GT Mazda CX-9. The artical is quite accurate. It rides, handles, and stops like a sports sedan. MSRP was just shy of 40K, but I picked it up for 36K drive out...

I have recently driven just about every SUV/CUV out there. This one is the winner hands down in my opinion. It's interior and features are better than most 50K+ SUV's...

Of course it is still just a "SUV Styled" mini-van...

Just signed on our AWD GT as well.. WICKED! I'd driven the 2wd more extensively ... knowing that we'd get an AWD... and I'm very impressed with the footing... the turning and the comfort. Having worked for Mazda for over 20 years... I've never been as impressed with a car/suv/cuv as I am with this one, And the audio/sound surround system is INCREADIBLE! *(considered the Subaru Tribeca when it first came out...and as impressed as I was/am with it... the extra room and the feel of the CX-9 is ever more impressive).

comparison to Tribeca by x5killer

The sound system of the CX-9 may be actually better then the TRibeca though i'm not sure. But the interior of the Tribeca is the nicest and best design with nothing else out there like it. The CX-9 interior is nice but pretty standard run of the mill but still modern and nice just not exceptional like the TRibeca.

The NAV seems to be touch screen like the Tribeca but also voice activated unlike the Tribeca giving the CX-9 the edge there probably.

Seems the CX-9 website mentions Sirius ready stereo though, so what about ppl with XM, though they are merging so maybe it wont make a difference.

I would like an integrated XM stereo but until they make one that uses the passport card that you can take out and put in a home xm stereo player and into a portable xm player and oen that can record songs on the in car player with a mode to play back on the fly and scheduled recorded XM content then my Pioneer Inno used in car plugged direct into audio inputs for best sound is better because it can be used in car, as portable , in the home and can record on the fly and scheduled recordings for playback when you dont have Xm signal or just want to listen to your recorded xm content.

moon roof and res DVD not possible? by x5killer

seems this is the case as you can't select the moon roof if you have the REar entertainment package chosen.

I guess they stupidly place the DVD screen where the sunroof is. Tribeca manages to allow both.

oh well, supposedly an aftermarket dvd setup with multiple screens in the headrests etc is better and can sometimes even be had cheaper. still somewhat of a disappointment.

there was a few other option restrictions as well including i thin if you pick the package with the automatic rear hatch you can't have the retractable cargo cover. that doesnt' seem to make much sense either and is quite a shame.
