Long-Term Test: 2008 Mazda CX-9 Touring - Zoom-zoominess abounds in anything Mazda graces with its seagull-inspired badge, and its newest crossover is no exception. The 2008 model year marks the debut of the 3.7-liter DOHC V6 in the CX-9. Power has been increased to 273 horsepower, up from 263 in the 2007 CX-9 with its 3.5-liter V6. Fuel economy has also improved to 17 mpg city/24 mpg highway, a gain of 1 mpg and 2 mpg, respectively. (more)

Great review, and what a nice vehicle. Amazing how good this one is, while how poor the Ford Edge is. I've seen a couple in my neighbourhood and they really do look upmarket. The only thing is that I'm having a hard time differentiating between this and the CX-7. CX-7 is just a smaller version?

| I can't believe you completely left out the Outlook, Acadia, and Freestyle in your article. The Outlook and Acadia are superb vehicles, under any circumstances, and probably the best crossovers on the road (not everybody likes the sporty nature of the Mazda.) The Freestyle is also a great car, just a little dated, but it too, still deserves attention. I was surprised that these three cars were left out. | |
We test drove several CX-9s at our local dealer. We were cross shopping the MDX and RX350 and considered the CX9 to see if we could get as much utility with less money. We found the base model "sport" to feel extremely cheap. the only one that felt "luxurious" was the Grand Touring model and it was priced at almost $40k fully loaded. I picked up a 2007 MDX tech for $43k. for the 3k difference, the MDX is leaps and bounds better. if you buy this car, get the cheap one and enjoy it for the utility. if you want utility AND luxury, get an MDX.

So the real net difference here is probably about $4k. |

Replying to: desmolicious (Mar 23, 2007 11:31 am) Mazda(similarly equipped to the AUDI) 3.5 L V6 rides and drives better for $20k less. 0-60 is 7.7 sec. v. 10.0 for Audi with 3.6L. Audi weighs 1000 lbs more, and 3rd row seat is less roomy and tougher to reach. People should look at them side by side! I drove the Edge and frestyle an hour before...Not bad, but not up to this caliber performance, fit and finish.Zoom! |
