The Aston is a lot closer in weight to a BMW 6 series, Jag XKE or Mercedes SL550 than the 911 - and that makes it more of a GT car than true sports car, in my book. Perhaps Aston wasn't really trying to match the 911 in terms of performance, but just trying to pull away some prospective Porsche customers with the "10 times more exclusive" sales pitch. But I think they would do better under the new ownership to deliver the goods if they are going to talk the talk. From what I understand, anyone comparing it to the aforementioned BMW, Jag or Mercedes in terms of performance would come away very impressed. But not if they compared it to the 911S Cab.

The V8V is acknowledged by almost all as one of the most beautiful automobiles on the planet, something one never hears about the Porc. How many times have you walked out to your Porc in a parking lot to find it surrounded by people ogling it and taking pictures with their cell phones? Not often, I expect. Yet this is a not uncommon experience with the AM. That said, different strokes for different folks and AM and Porc owners are from different tribes.

And, hopefully, now that AM is no longer a division of Ford, you will be treated to a bit better attention to build quality and reliability that the nameplate deserves. |
