They don't use gasoline in Top Fuel Dragster's and Top Fuel Funny Car's.

Before I go further, why is it "extremely dangerous" to use gas?

Next:

Top Fuel, Funny Car, and A/Fuel Dragster use nitromethane for fuel. Nitro is a by-product of the refining process. Until racing came along it had few uses.

And yes, Ashley's car uses about 20 gallons of nitromethane on every sub five second, 330 MPH run. Nitro costs around $25 a gallon, by the way.

Past that, there are several semi-pro classes that run alcohol for fuel. Many sportsman racers use alcohol also.

As for gasoline, it depends on the car. But I've used less than five than 5 gallons on a winning weekend.

Nascar still uses gas only, and those 43 racers on Sunday used a heck of a lot more than all of the pro and sportsman drivers use in drag racing on Sunday!

The IRL, by the way, uses Ethanol only, starting this year. So, they are doing well!

I don't know if you are a tree hugger or not, so I won't judge. But it's obvious that you aren't a race fan.

But let me give you something to think about. Almost every safety item on your car was first developed on the race track.

And since racing is all about continually making the internal combustion engine more efficient, and thus more powerful, all of the advances that have made your car more fuel efficient, have been born at the race track.

Remember that the next time you see a race car!

When we see alternative fueled power drag racing. That is like starting over from scratch. The fastest electric car I know of factory wise is the Tesla Roadster.
