"With its oil temperature pinned at 300 degrees F and its coolant temperature climbing rapidly, the turbocharged Bavarian wonder engages its limp-home mode and we crawl pathetically back to the pits." Hmm, the BMW neither has an oil temp gauge nor a coolant gauge so that in itself is an interesting observation... Isn't it just great for Infinity that a rival car that they provided happened to break down and then journos get to write about it? As church lady would have said: "How conveeeeeeenient". Test the Infinity against the BMW away from Infinity's handlers, on real roads and let's see how things shape up.

Replying to: desmolicious (Mar 21, 2007 2:47 pm) I take it you've never been inside a 335i Coupe. If you had, you would have noted there's an oil temp gauge at the bottom of the tach and, in fact, the highest temp it registers is 300°.

| German cars are so overrated. They've been getting by for years with the false values of "heritage" and "prestige". As PT Barnum said: "There's a sucker born every minute". | |

They don't call them "BM-trouble yous" for nothing. I've owned 8 of BMWs. They are nowhere near as reliable as Infiniti. It's nice to live life without the hassle of constant warranty repairs! Besides, BMWs no longer hold performance or handling advantages anymore. Infiniti and Lexus offer better styling (definitely!), more power and features, superior reliability, and better warranties for the money (especially Infiniti). In addition, the current 3-series sedan looks like an old Hyundai design of 10 years ago. (Current Hyundais are much nicer!) And sadly, the new 3 Coupe sorely lacks styling distinction. So much for Bangle's f-LAME styling!! |

First off, the overheating problems with automatic 335i BMWs have been discussed ad nauseum in internet forums. It happens in a few such cars that are flogged. Notice the word "few". It appears that manual tranny cars have an extra oil cooler. In any case, I would seriously question the intent of a person who bought a Bimmer with an auto tranny and then tracked it (sounds like a partially committed poseur). I may be wrong, but this problem also may be restricted to 335i cars made before Jan 2007. So there, Infiniti lovers everywhere. Before we get all hot and bothered, let us have a real world comparo with production cars that are not supplied by rival car manufacturers. Shame on Edmunds, not for fawning over the G37, which I don't mind doing myself, but for dissing the 335i when it underperformed in questionable conditions. Ferraris and Lambos get the benefit of doubt when their highly strung cars fail during testing, so why not in this case? |

| Let's stick to the G37 here - I realize the BMW was part of the article, but let's not turn this into a bash-fest, okay? | |
