Yes, it's legit... no, it's not an Impreza. That's the B5-TPH concept car from the '05 Tokyo Auto Show. Subaru specifically said it was not intended as a glimpse of future design direction, but was there to show off what's inside: the Turbo Parallel Hybrid (TPH). WRX performance at roughly 40MPG, if I remember right. The TPH plan was scrapped when Toyota bought shares in Fuji Heavy, with the intent on saving big bucks by utilizing Toyota's hybrid technology. Still 3 or 4 years away from a Subie hybrid, though.
Here's a recent spyshot of a real Impreza. Not 100% positive if we'll see a turbo 5-door hatch like this in North America, though... it's possible turbos will be in sedan form only here.
Check out this link for a compilation of all the different Photoshop renderings magazines and individuals have come out with so far... pretty amazing there's so many takes on it: http://home.arcor.de/subaru-impreza/indexStudien07.htm

The 08 Impreza will be produced here in NA and it's on the legacy platform so it doesn't suprise me.

Thought Camry production at SIA ruled out the possibility of Impreza built here, no?

Not really. They had a lot of overcapacity since Isuzu Troopers were no longer being built there. They had been planning to build Imprezas there for some time, and long before the Toyota alliance.

Ah. Thanks. Didn't realize the Impreza plan was set in stone or that they had capacity beyond the Isuzu portion (that's supposed to be used up by about 40-50,000 Camrys/year, right?). From nasioc rumors of a NA-only sedan, I guess that's what'd be built here, then. Wonder if all hatches will be built in Gunma.

Also, the Baja is no longer being made, which means even more production capacity.

But that was only 16 units annually. You could've built those in your garage.
