I have your answer, but I don't think you will like it.The Motor Trend april '07 issue has the comparison between the Crown vic and the Charger. Here are some specs.

         Crown Vic - Charger
    MSRP 35,445 - 30,480
    Eng. HP 250 - 340
    0-60 7.8 - 5.6
    0-80 12.9 - 9.4
 1/4 mile 15.9/88.1 - 14.2/99.4

The Charger also has stability and traction control.I would say the Charger is the better choice. The Crown Vic is A good police car and did well, but I think the Charger will take over. When I was working on the Police cars, the Mopars were my favorite.

My Dept. just bought 3 Chargers with the HEMIS and ordered 4 with the V-6. Well, that was a waste of money. We are only 5 square miles. Hit the gass to hard and you rocket into another city. Actually, the car is fast! I wish I had this engine in my CV. The biggest problem that we have faced is our mechanic can't figure out how to disconnect the rear window from lowering. So, his solution was to disconnect it entirely. We can't even put the rear window down from the drivers control area. Also, Dodge needs to add a key lock on the passengers side door. Nothing like trying to stuff a bad guy in the car and then have to drag 'em around to the drivers side and unlock the door.

I read on the internet that the rear windows and rear door handles are disabled.I worked on police cars for 23 years and that how our cars were.As far as the V6 Charger, it has the same speed as the CV and stops better. So you didn't lose anything there. As for the Hemi you gained big time. The Hemi Cherger matches the numbers for what was called one of the fastest police cars the 69-70 Dodge Polara, and Plymouth Fury 440.One of the first police cars I worked on was the 70 Plymouth Fury 440.I can tell you that car was fast.I like to hear how the Charger holds up. I would of loved working on those Hemi's.But now retired.

The VE Commodore is already used as a police car in Australia and has been used as Highway patrol cars and general duty cars. The vehicles are a special police package with all the connections for radio, computer etc already installed.

I found that the Chargers are great cars if they work out the bugs, We have 7 Chargers used as police cars, All have under 15,000 mile on them and have been at the dealership more than on the road. Front and rear rotors wharp at 6,000 miles and the brakes wear out about 9,000 miles, The rear wheel bearing have been replaced on about all of them,The tire that come from the factory you can expect to get about 10,000 miles on them,( we now use Firestone GT Pursuits 225/55/R18)

I can't believe that low miles cars can all have the same problems and so many. The G8 (Commodore) police package comes standard with heavy duty brake pads. The IRS is standard on all Holden Commodore has been since 1997 and uses CV joints on the back axel both at the diff and the wheels. Every car make even Toyota have warranty issues but the Chargers sound over the top, could understand it on the odd Friday car but all of them. Haven't heard of any problems with 300C or is it that we just don't have many in Australia? My VT (1999) commodore has 180,000km about 112,000 miles on it and hasen't had as many problems as your Chargers in 15,000 miles and it is a 3800 V6 with a 5 speed manual transmission.
I would recommend a G8 GT anytime as a pursuit vehicle because they were designed to survive in a country that has some real car breaker roads and they thrive on them.

The air intake is in the under the front bumper located 20 inches off the ground any standing water 3 inches off the ground will be forced into the air intake and blow the engine. This vehicle will not travel the same as crown vic, or impalia. This charger traveled the same road with standing water and failed. Chysler will not stand behind the warranty. For not having the market in Police vehciles locked in they sure done care. Brake pads had to be replaced at 16,000 Tires at 18,000 rear pads at 23,000 and the front end ties were loose since it was purchased with 400 miles on it and told nothing was wrong until 15000 when we almost lost the full control. MOVE YOUR AIR INTAKE OR YOU WILL BUY A NEW MOTOR, chysler doesn't care

Be thankful for the Hemi's. The V-6 police package stinks. It handles great, but off the line acelleration stinks. Makes it real hard to quickly and safely clear an intersection and working radar in the moving or stationary mode, forget it! By time you turn around and try to catch up, you're creating more of a hazard than the violator, since it take so long to overtake the violator.

BY NO MEANS IS KNOCKING MY HEMI!!! The charger w/hemi SRT8 is a power house and looks it took (MY TANK), However, it doesn't do any good having this power when Chysler refuses to fix a defect. The defect is no matter how much power or how good the car looks its sad when an Police Impalia and Police crown vit travels the same road and goes through normal standing water and my engine blows. Still under warranty Chrysler refused to pay, knowing who in their right mind would put an intake underneath the vehicle so close to the roadway. You may not have rain like we do, but just a month again a semi on a tow lane road pushed water to another patrol going the opposite way and the vehicle blue its motor also, now how many times have we got sprayed with standing water from a semi in our personal vehcile....many and my motor never blue....I want to foreware departs if they buy the hemi/srt8 get the air intake changed or you'll be out 6,599 for the motor plus labor.
