Article comments for First Drive: 2008 Mercedes-Benz C350 Sport - As ominous as it looks, this smooth stretch of winding road is the perfect place to wring out the new 2008 Mercedes-Benz C350 Sport. Fully redesigned this year, this car is aimed directly at the BMW 3 Series, just like nearly every other C-Class before it. (more)

Informative Article by bringman

As usual, the Edmunds article was well-written, giving prospective buyers an objective heads up about what they can expect from the sportiest non-AMG model of the new-gen C. Thanks for that.

But I just have to say a quick word about the styling, which admittedly is subjective. I'm not sure why this is considered to be such a leap forward. Elsewhere I've seen Edmunds call the prior model's styling "dowdy" but when it was introduced it was "cutting edge" and "hip." Now I know nothing lasts forever, but come on ... I wouldn't call the '07 model outdated, even if it is in need of a refresh (yes, it was time to say goodbye to the peanut lights).

On the other hand, the rear end of the '08 model is what I would call dowdy. All that sportiness, tension and "scowling" attitude from the front and sides are resolved in one sagging, mule-hoof rump that doesn't look nearly as nice as 1995-2003 Maximas that had the same styling motif.

And I agree that most German cars do not look good in white. But I would include this one in the mix of them!

All in all, these are just my two cents, which is what you asked for. Keep up the good work!

MB is MB without a doubt and to think that it's trying to compete with BMW is joke. Do you think you would buy a BMW if MB made the same specs? I don't think so. It is so sad to say that even the professionl reviewers don't even get it. Well with my experience, I drove a 6-speed hardtop 328 last summer and I was not impressed, then after the 350 came out, I borrowed it two weekends and it is not a performance car but it pampers you in lots of ways. The thumbs ups and the jelous looks I got was overwhelming. The BMW, not even one person even bother to ask. If you are thinking where I'm at, Germany! I'd take the pleasure of people complementing my car which advertise my status rather than a BMW that nobody even cares. I'm pretty sure probably half of the people in here don't even own any of the cars they mentioned let alone a professional driver. Who drives a MB with a MT? Hello??????????It's not about performance, its the status, luxury and comfort.

You are so right. Everyone talks about a MT, but who REALLY gets to use it enough for it to matter. Only time I ever get to use it is on Sunday morning before 9am. In addition having an AT allows you to sit at all sorts of angles not possible with a stick if you want to drive smoothly. BMW are nice but i will never buy one until they get rid of the orangy dash light as i prefer the cooler colors. The C class is nice though, and my wife may get it but not until the 2nd model year. There is something wrong with MB for keeping the same engine in the C class. Virtually everyone of its competitor makes more power; 335i, G35/37, CTS, TL-S, IS350. But to be honest, the C class is a car made by a luxury car company but it in itself is not close to being a luxury car. My Avalon limited has leather heated/vented memory seats with thigh extension, radar cruise, push button start, xenon, navi etc for only $33k. You can't even get some of these as an option on the C class. But it is a nice car overall so i will be a hypocrite and possibly get it for my wife. BTW it does look pretty nice in white. What is this i hear about an 8 page instruction on how to operate the headlight? Can someone confirm this?

Hi the c-300 sport offers everything but the same size engine as the c-350 you will not be able to tell the differnce between the two. I had driven the c-300 sport fully loaded for two days. very nice car but i will test drive 08 Infiniti g35. Just thought i would pass info along.

I got a C 300 sport, after careful research. The 350 only comes in auto, as we all know. I opted for the manual because, on the test drive, it was just more fun and controllable to me. The car had to be ordered with the options and colors I wanted with the manual tranny because there was not one in the entire country. It was worth the wait. I am not sure why the A4 is always touted as a competitor in this class. It's a nice car, but a toy compared to the MB and BMW. And yes, I, and family members, have owned a few A4s. Due to the many disappointments, I am not sure I'll ever go back to Audi. I may be suprficial too, because when I saw the Benz, I knew I was getting it.

Mercedes C350 Sport in Snow by michael68

I just purchased a 2008 Mercedes C350 Sport which is scheduled to arrive in late March. I'm wondering how the car will perform in the snow since it is rear wheel drive. For next winter on Long Island, I'm hoping a good set of snow tires (I heard Blizzaks are the ones to get) will be sufficient for the snow & ice.. has anybody had any experience with this? Any advice or comments?

The new SLK 350 is coming out in May, 2008 with its output boosted to 305bhp. Has anyone heard if the C350 Sport will be getting that same boost in power for 2009, and if so when it will appear?

I just received my C350 Sport yesterday. I went for a spin last night and I took it to 120mph and it wanted to go faster. But I ran out of road. There are a few items that MB could have done better, like offer the same features that they do in Canada. But overall I am very pleased.

By the time my lease is up the new E-class will be out and I will likely go for the E-Class.
