Article comments for Comparison Test: 2008 Audi R8 vs. 2007 Porsche 911 Turbo - Aside from their six-figure price tags, no two cars could be more different than the new 2008 Audi R8 and the 2007 Porsche 911 Turbo. Perhpas we are both a bit bipolar. You own a C2S and are advocating the "4". I own a 2007 911 turbo, and, for a non-turbo model, would generally advise going with the "2" model.

There is nothing wrong with the "4" models, but I just don't think there is any compelling reason to get one, unless 50% of your dirving is on winding roads in a moderate to heavy rain. That is the ONLY time my AWD has shifted power to the front wheels for stability enhancement.

If you ever get a chance to go to a track and drive, even at moderate speeds, a 997 GT3, I think you will change your opinion. My 911TT makes for a comfortable daily driver, but the GT3 lighter weight and handling give it a much crisper feel. And you don't need to be driving at insane speeds to feel it.

C2, C2S, C4, C4S. Not really a bad choice in that group. But I'd start by recommending the C2S to anybody that asked.

I think you posted a similar question in another forum. I'll second "habitat1"'s response. Porsche has come a long way in improving customer service. I would have no reservation about buying or recommending any 997 model 911. As far as Lexus goes, they are the kings of reliability and (depending upon specific dealer) customer service. But they wrote the book on "Boring to Drive". I will be in the market for a coffin, before a Lexus "sports" car.

I did post on another forum and "habitat1" gave some good advice. Thanks for your post too. Impressed by how Porsche took care of "habitat1" when he needed tires. That is great customer service. After reading and talking to my friend who owns a 996, I feel more comfortable buying the Turbo. Don't know about everyone else but $130,000 to $140,000.00 + or - , is a lot of money for me to put on a car and not having great reliablity/quality/service would make me quite upset.

Love my Lexus LX470 but your right about "Boring to Drive". Good thing is it always "Drives". Thanks again .

Interesting. I had an order placed for the R8 and was next in line for production. I had placed my order early prior to pricing being released. I am in Canada and with the dollar at par I couldnt get past the 27% price differential when the prices were finally released. My R8 would have been $180k out the door incl taxes. Knowing I couldn't go down to the US and buy an R8 due to so much demand I looked at the 911 T. Ended up buying a 2007 911 T in the US with 1500 miles. This same car in Canada, even after Porsche's 10% across the board price reduction on all '08 models in Canada, would have been a $200k bill all taxes in. I was all in on the 911 T from the US for $144k.

I had driven an R8 test car and loved it. I then drove a CarerraS which I didn't think compared at all to the R8. Having said all that my 911 T gets the nod over the R8 in pure driving experience-but so very close. I'm happy.
