When I read most posts here I feel like much less of a "car guy". I'm not sure if that's a good thing, a bad thing or if I'm just getting old. I'm not into bashing any other rides but I do like to enjoy what I drive whether it's my 07 Ridgeline RTX, my 08 Lancer GTS or my 07 Sentra SE-R. A long time ago I said to some friends "if you're not having fun you're wasting the gas". I don't think I've wasted a drop since picking up my 07 SE-R a few months ago. Replying to: bearishly4u (Oct 29, 2007 6:04 pm) i enjoy edmunds for it's format but despise it's honda brown nosing. seems every nissan they test is unfairly dissed and kudos is given to honda (even if honda is not being comp'd) this review was more of the same old stuff. predictable. very subjective. but these people who write for edmunds need to write what they think people want to hear if they want to keep their jobs i've driven hondas with the preconceived notion that they are the best (after being subjected to autojournalist gushing), and come away disappointed every time just goes to show you that just because these guys are paid to test cars and write about them doesn't grant them supreme knowledge over the subject. the new sentra is sooo roomy compared to the shovel-nosed civic (some of my subjectivity, but at least I own it) the sentra is a fantastic compromise, but jordy claims it's "trying to be something it's not." egads! what a goofy thing to say if you don't like the slab sided nissan corporate look, fine. that's personal preference however, honda's "wants to look like a bmw" doesn't earn any points in my book, but apparently josh knows that's the sorta thing that presses joe public's buttons btw, if you don't like the increased girth and weight, stick with your old plastic potato se-r of the past

I don't think a discussion of the Sentra would be complete without a discussion of some of the troubles. I have an 07 SpecV, purchased 6 weeks ago. The power steering failed. The dealer replaced the entire steering column and power steering motor, no questions, but today I heard ominous noises from the steering. I have heard that my experience is common, and of other troubles as well, but have no first-hand knowledge.

Bought a 2007 new old stock Spec V after trying most of the usual competition - Civic SI, MazdaSpeed 3, Mini Cooper, etc. The Nissan was pretty much equal in performance yet thousands less.....paid a little over $17k for a car with a sticker of $23k - with sunroof, lsd, Fosgate, etc. So far no reliability issues with average of 26 mpg in city commuter traffic. I note the post above mentioned the steering issue. This has become a common problem with Specs and involves replacing the steering column as the electric power steering cannot be accessed in any other manner. So far this is the only serious problem being reported by a relatively large number of owners. My car handles well, is quiet, fun to drive and gets decent gas mileage considering the engine size - for not a lot of money. Replies to this message: busiris (Apr 16, 2008 2:34 pm)

Replying to: dallar (Apr 08, 2008 5:30 pm) I am beginning to wonder if electric power steering isn't quite ready for "prime time". And, not only within Nissan, but other manufacturers as well. I also have a BMW Z4, with electric power steering, and I have read that it has become an issue on some of those models as well. So far, it hasn't been a problem I recently purchase a 08 Altima, and was surprised at first to see that it had the traditional power steering pump set-up. The more I read about electric power steering, I'm rather glad that it didn't come equipped that way.

The current Sentra seems to perhaps have an identity problem. I compared the Sentra's length/width/front shoulder room to the Saab 9-3 (now the smallest Saab) and found them to be very, very close. The Sentra SE-R Spec V is faster, less expensive, more reliable and has much better resale than the Saab 9-3. The newest generation Sentra has grown into legitimate competition for the Saab 9-3 and Volvo S60, especially the SE-R Spec V. Perhaps many will agree with me that the Sentra is more attractive than the Saab. And salesman will not laugh at you if you try to trade it in as they would if you tried trading in a Saab.
