who ever was driving this long term Q7 needs to have a better driver test the acceleration and braking. Those numbers are way below what everybody else has been measuring, like Motor Trend for example. They also need to read the brochure and the owner manual, the ESP/ASR, hill assist and anti rollover are standard on any Q7 not just the premium. What a lack of professionalism.

Replying to: civicguy3 (Mar 10, 2007 8:04 pm) I think this one must be a loaner since the fine print will say "Edmunds purchased this vehicle for the purposes of evaluation" if it was purchased for the fleet. Either that or they are using a template and are forgetting to update the boilerplate. I don't know what happened to the Maranello wrap-up. Maybe it's still in the garage getting fixed!

When I researched for a new car I excluded Audi for exactly the reason you were frustrated, dealer service. No waiting area? At my Lexus dealer the waiting area is like a SPA. It has a flat screen TV, wireless internet and fresh baked pastries, not that I ever spent any time there. Never had a problem with my Lexus that caused the need for a special trip and Lexus provides free pickup and delivery and a free Lexus rental. You guys were lucky since the internet is full of Audi owners who suggest the general reliability is poor and neither the dealers nor the company advocate for the customer. Beautiful interiors aside, the ownership experience needs to be better at Audi prices. While Lexus vehicles are far from exciting they really make the ownership experience pleasant. Replying to: roblaw (May 16, 2008 2:46 am) I had a Lexus LX450 for 10 years, and then got my q7. Needless to say, I was quite worried about the service experience as well. I found that the closest Audi repair shop had rather poor service compared to my Lexus experience. However, the next closest Audi dealer also has a Lexus shop next door (part of the same ownership group). This location is wonderful, and takes it as a challenge to be as good if not better than the neighboring Lexus shop. I have been quite impressed with Len Stoler Audi Service. They even provided loaner cars.

As often happens with reviews, long-term, comparisons or single-car reviews, I'm left wondering about how aggressively people drove. Obviously this is a low-mpg vehicle, but 14 overall seems atrocious. Too, brake pads being done after 24,000 miles seems awfully low. (I've put about that many miles on a 97 Crown Vic PI I got w/o knowledge of how new the brake pads were and my mechanic told me last week that the front pads have about 50% left.) I noted in a comparison elsewhere that a Rabbit got 22 mpg in "combined" driving, but nothing more about the nature of the driving. If testers are driving appreciably faster, more aggressively than the vast majority of drivers... or not, it seems like it'd be worth mentioning, as it relates to fuel economy, things like brake wear. The Q7's at an Audi promo event in LA, CA, didn't mesh well with city traffic thanks to what Edmunds reported, and (in my case) a hair trigger accelerator pedal making smooth launches difficult. Still, I sensed its appeal for long highway cruises, provided there are Audi dealers nearby and you have the dough for the gas.

Replying to: rghojai (May 16, 2008 1:00 pm) Hey Rghojai; I'm a 2007 Volkswagen Rabbit owner and I've averaged about 24 mpg for on my vehicle for all types of driving, including a lot of highway driving at 85mph. I usually put my car in to "sports" mode and floor it at least once or twice per tank of gas. I've been able to push my car to 26 and have gotten as lot as 20. I've put over 21,000 miles on my car in about 10 months and my breaks still look good with not a lot of wear. Hope this info helps!
