All you have to do is be able to prove (receipts) that the required maintenance was done.   However... if a problem should arise that could be traced to some error in an oil change, e.g. overfilling or not filling with enough oil, then there would be the question of who is to blame. That is one reason to use the same shop for all oil changes--dealer or not--then there is no doubt about whose fault it is. Me, I use my local dealers because they don't charge that much for oil changes (it's actually free for two of my cars, one of which was originally purchased at the dealership, and on the other I got a free maintenance package when I bought it) and it's nice to know that if there's some problem, it's the manufacturer's dealer who is at fault.

I was just at a vw dealership yesterday, after it was closed to take a look at the available Rabbits. This dealership (in Western Wisconsin) has about 5 or 6 Rabbits and I was struck by the fact that most of them seemed to be 2006 models. If we are coming close to the 2008 model year, why would they still have a fair amount of '06s? Would those '06 models be more likely to be marked down or will they probably sell close to their MSRP? VW Rabbits are in fairly short supply just about everywhere, very few dealers have an abundance of them, and then you find one that has so many 2006 models?   I believe the 2006 models were first made available in May or June 2006, then the switchover to 2007 came in September or so. During last summer the dealerships around here had maybe one Rabbit on the showroom floor and zero out on the lot. Whenever any new ones arrived, phone calls were sent out before the Rabbits were even unloaded off the truck, and most were sold within 12-24 hours.   I wish you would revisit that Wisconsin dealership, find out what's up with those 2006 models, and report back here. Replying to: jbaustian (Apr 15, 2007 10:36 am) It's possible that dealership acquired the 2006s from other dealers, to meet local demand because they ran out of 2007s. You can check that by looking at the window sticker to see the dealers to which the cars were originally shipped. I've seen that kind of thing happen before.
