I test drove an 07 today and the rear "thump" over uneven roads was very noticable. I'm surprised I don't see more posts about it.

There is a service recommendation on the "thump", mine had it, they fixed it. Something about the factory installing the wrong bolts!

Wrong bolts? That sounds like BS. If it's true then Acura has a big problem. Assuming it's not true, I'd want to get a better explanation if that was my car. Get the details for your own benefit and also share it with everyone here.

there is a post somewhere that has the service bulletin link. It's true, the bolts weren't machined correctly and needed to be replaced. It seemed to work, so, I have to admit, I don't really care what it was, as long as they fixed it.

Here's a couple of threads about it, although I don't see the TSB number or summary off-hand:

Thanks for the threads. I checked for TSB's here on Edmunds.com and don't see any for suspension issues with the 07 MDX, but, like you said, as long as they fixed it. It would have been nice to have specifics since it's not happening to everyone.

I think some folks are more in tune with their vehicles or expect better. Example: To my wife the noises are no big deal to her. To me it's very annoying hearing rear end noises when going over uneven roads in a $40K vehicle. I drove an 07 Chevy HHR rental and it didn't have these noises. The MDX is more than twice the price of the HHR and while you obviously can't compare the two vehicles the suspension noises on the Acura are unacceptable and just make no sense. It's a first for me. If you are going to test drive the MDX take it on a long drive and over bumpy, uneven roads. I unfortunately only drove it on the highway during the test drive.

Also, I think the bolts take care of a loud knock noise but the thumping/thud noises will always remain. Listen closely and I think you will hear the latter on all the 07 MDX's and maybe even the 08's too. Truly annoying, I think! The replacement of the bolts had no improvement on mine.

Vaughn, as far as the noisy suspension on the
MDX, are you referring to the sport model or the regular model?

I have the regular model not the sport. I've been told that each shock on the sport model runs like more than $450 each. Now that is scary for when it's time to replace them!

The clunking noise on mine has ruined my enjoyment of this $40k vehicle.
