#263 of 475 2008 Mazda 3 by steven2479

I own a 2008 Mazda 3 sedan (automatic trans.). Shortly after my 20,000 mile service at the dealer I started having this weird problem where I can't shift into "park" properly. There is nothing "wrong" with the shifter exactly, because I can actually switch it into park, but the "P" light does not come on, so I'm not exactly sure if the car is actually in park, though I can not start the car when this happens unless I shift into neutral. This does not happen all the time, but it seems to be happening more often than not. Also, if the car drifts a tiny bit frontwards or backwards after I shift into park, there's a clicking sound and the "P" light does come on. Has anyone had this issue and does this mean that the transmission is possibly damaged or getting bad? I am going to take it to the dealer, but just wondering if anyone has any insight?

Steven--

It could be something as simple as a faulty neutral safety switch, which would be considerably less trouble and expense--and more likely--than a bad transmission at 20K miles. Still, anything is possible...

#265 of 475 2009 Mazda 3 possible transmission problem by kwilcher10

Bought a 2009 Mazda 3 in August 2009 with 9400 miles on it and sold new to me. At 23,000 miles I noticed vibration when I am coming to a red light slowing down and then the light changes to green. When the transmission is in second gear and I accelerate the gas it gives off a vibration and noise. Took car in to dealership and at they put the car on the computer and of course nothing picks up. Took car back again and this time they reprogram the RPM. Took car back again and went on test drive with the tech and he heard the issue. He then test drove a Mazda 3 hatchback on the lot and I asked prior to driving did it have the same transmission as my car as well as motor and the advised me yes. He then advised me he didn't hear it. Got car back and the same noise again-- long story short my car has been back and forth to the dealership from May 2010 until October 2010 every month and sometimes twice a month. They have reprogram my RMP, replace my AC compressor, then replace my transmission and come to find out my transmission had a leak that they didn't bother to tell me about. I have been on the phone with MAZDA corp. and MAZDA rep. who has been working on my car since yesterday and called today and stated it is normal; which is not. I was wondering if anybody has had this problem with trouble in 2nd gear accelerating and slowing down. I have been in contact with BBB Auto Line and filed paperwork with them and waiting on a meeting, to see if something can be done b/c now they are telling me it is normal, after replacing all these items on my car when the problem started at 23,000 and now it has 27,0000 miles on it. I just want out of the car all together.

Let me know if anybody else is having problems with gears and transmission.

Wow do you work for them? My credibility?
Yes in the state of Massachusetts the Interstate 90 toll road only allow contracted towing companies to remove cars from the highways.
Just to send an update. Indeed my transmission was blown on arrival at the dealership. The transmission control module failed without any warning. The transmission was totally destroyed internally according the diagnostics done by thier Engineers. I was well taken care of by the dealership with a loaner car and compensation for not having my new car for a couple of weeks while they replaced the TCM and the Transmission. They say they have never had this happen before.
I am sure it will be traded in before I run out of the 3yr 36K
I hope no one else has the misfortune I have had. The new transmission has 500 miles on it and it working fine again. *fingers crossed*

I parked my car in my driveway (on a hill) the other night. After we had been home about an hour I heard cars honking outside of our house. When I looked out the window my car had rolled out of the drive way across the street and partially into another driveway. When I climbed inside the car the car was still in gear and the emergency brake was still engaged. This has happened before, but I thougth maybe I had left the car in neutral.
Has anyone else run into this issue?

#272 of 475 Transmission Pan Problem by jyliss

Oct 21, 2010 (9:02 am)

About a year ago, when my car was with the dealer for an unrelated problem, they said my transmission fluid was dirty and they did a transmission service. Three months later, when my car was with a local mechanic for an oil change, he noticed that the transmission pan was pitted and rusting. He suggested I call Mazda. My car was one month out of warranty and, as I live far from the dealer and am disabled, I don't go to the dealer for routine service, so they said they wouldn't cover it. I brought up the fact that the pan had to have shown the pitting when they did the transmission service but to no avail. Now I've had to spend about $300 on a new pan and service because I started leaking fluid. I've never had this problem with cars I've had much longer or with the used cars I bought when I was younger. I'm very unhappy with Mazda and I'll never buy another one. It's a shame because it's such a sharp looking car and I always get compliments on it.
