This is possibly the best-driving FWD car on the planet. It offers blistering performance for a 2.0L engine (0-60 in 6.1 seconds), due to the fabulous DSG gearbox; however, the handling is also quite linear and satisfying. If you've read any review of the A3, you would see that the author would usually be gushing about the car's superior dynamics. Another example of this is the Mini Cooper; there's no need to explain that one. Now from what I have read, Audi has done a sublime job making the 2 ton RS4 incredibly well balanced, but I guess my point is why? Why not make the car correct in the first place? You don't seem to understand that RWD cars are just simply not part of the Audi philosophy. I believe that, at least for the rest of my life, Audi won't produce a single RWD car. They are devoted to quattro; revising it, redesigning it, simply improving it. It is one of the best AWD systems on the planet, and it is what sets Audi apart. FWD bases or not, they are AWD cars, and very good ones, at that. It is also, as you implied, a laborious task to tame the RS4's nose-heavy design. Akin to the rear-engine 911, this gives Audi's engineers massive experience, and it is a great achievement to make an AWD car with the engine all the way over the front axle handle like a RWD car; obviously, it is no achievement to make a RWD car handle like a RWD car. Just to clarify, Audi did consider equipping its lineup with RWD. However, the top brass felt that it would alienate most of Audi's core buyers (in Europe especially), and it would be a costly, unprofitable project. I hold Audi in the highest esteem for what they have achieved over a meager twelve years, starting with the 1996 B5 A4. Sustainable car companies such as this can stumble, as they did, but with vigor, they pulled themselves back up. And they are better than ever. Go Audi! Replying to: esf (Apr 06, 2007 8:57 pm) Regards the M5 vs RS4, the RS4 was just a better overall package. Sure the new M5 is faster (but only slightly), but it can't match the feel of the RS4. The Audi is a much better drive, more communicative, great sounding engine, great brakes, more neutral and secure handling and a fit and finish that is way better than the BMW's. Regards the RS4 vs BMW 335. The 335 has a great engine, smooth and powerfull, but the handling with the sport package is vague. Floats and rolls too much. I was really not impressed, having owned BMW's before I was very dissapointed. I can take corners .10mph faster in the RS4 than the 335i. If you want the all around package that is truly a drivers saloon.. get the RS4.. you will not be dissapointed ! |

Here is an RS4 Avant tearing up an Evo 8. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7LU5aTCHxnw&feature=related Here is a modified Evo against an RS4 on stock rubber: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zVARQfX9h0c |
