Interesting, the just tested BMW 335 sedan out handles and out brakes the Audi for $25K less. The only thing the Audi has on it is straight line speed, which for the BMW is a $600 chip away..

I really doubt it can keep up on the twisties with the RS4, remember it's just fast on the straights, underneath it's pretty much like a 323i which is no super sport sedan. BMW is beginning to make "dad cars" for the rich American public, which actually tend to buy these cars. We`re talking about over 40 year old people here, not 20-30 yr old males with lots of testosterone. I`m generalizing here, I know, BUT BMW is not what it used to be: look for example at the old 5 Series and at the new one, while the old 5 is a brute BMW, the new one has way too many curves which make it quite feminine at first sight. Same story for the 3 and 7 Series. It`s just the wrong way.
New Audi's on the other hand, still look like an Audi, they still look Teutonic, still German even with the new design. IMHO, the RS4 is by far the meanest piece of machinery on the streets at this price and the sound is absolutely fabulous, never heard a car that sounds anything like it in my entire life. It`s from another planet, people will think it`s a plane.

Read Edmunds test of the 335 and look at the performance stats. It has the Audi beat on everything apart from straight line acceleration. For $25K less. Did you read the article?

"The only thing the Audi has on it is straight line speed."

You forgot to mention AWD. Try and mod that in w/ a $600 chip.

FWIW, the first time Edmunds tested the RS4, the numbers where a bit better. So conditions and test driver could be a factor.

Skid pad was the same this time as the bimmer, it was a .90 last time.

Also, slalom was 1 mph slower, and braking was longer. Go figure.

The BMW is a great performance bargain.

I still think on a track, the Audi would win.

Also, it says a lot about the 335, and a ton about the M5.

These differences could easily be explained by the fact that they were two different Audi RS4s tested 9 months apart. Add in the fact that different tracks/asphalt conditions (check the elevations) were used and different test pilots did the driving, and its quite impressive that the numbers are as close to each other as they are.

But for this M5 vs RS4 comparison test, it was a case of same track, same day, same driver.

And for those of you who think the 335i would give the RS4 fits on the track, just wait until the new M3 hits the street! After all, RS to M is the apples to apples comparison. Still, the 335i is pretty bitchin'.

Isn't it great when manufacturers try to one-up each other? Wouldn't it be great if we had Camaro vs Mustang vs Challenger again? And not just trailer queen concept cars, but the real deal?

Yeah, would be interesting... but here we're specifically talking about the article linked above. What did you think of it?

I thought the article was great. Makes me think that the old 400hp M5 is better than the new one...
