I recently heard that Rallye Motors in Westbury, LI. (which is my home dealership) is also selling extended warranties from G.E. (PIA.) although I have yet to confirm this, guess I will if the damn F&I department ever returns my call! but in the meantime, is anybody on the board, as well as Pat & Karens familiar with coverage offered from G.E.?

extended warranty necessary? by bemmerluuver

Question for all:

I am having so much difficulty deciding on whether or not to purchase an extended warranty after the new car coverage expires, I REALLY am begining to wonder if 2 to 3k for one of these things is really worth it. Can you guys (anybody and everybody) relate your experiences and reliability history with the E60. How many (and specifically what type, if any) mechanical failures have you guys had. I know bmw has a history of building mechanically sound vehicles, but with things like active headlamp systems, I drive, and NAV, I am concerned about how much a repair of a failure in one of these ELECTRONIC systems might cost me if I had to pay for it out of pocket.

Extended Maintenance by buddybrad

I have a '03 540i with 74K on it. I bought the Extended Maintenance and glad of it. It was around $1300 if I remember correctly and it's close to paying for itself now that the front rotors, calipers, and wear sensors have been replaced (got 74K out of them and the rear brakes are still org.).

The Extended Parts/Labor Warranty was going to be just over $3200 and I passed. So far my only major out-of-pocket cost has been a new power steering pump for $860 so I'm still money ahead there. Time will tell!

If the dealer likes a 3rd party insurance company - I'd trust them for a good savings.

As for cashing in early: Extended Maintenance policy stays with the car if you sell it and you can't get reimbursed. Extended Parts/Labor Warranty can be refunded (pro rated of course).

Your 540i has the exact same rotors, pads and sensors as my 2002 530i, and it only cost me about $150 per axle for all of the above. I surely hope your dealer didn't charge you nearly $1,300 for just your front brakes. :-/

i have a cpo 2004 540i, and i bought the extended warranty, so i am covered through mid-2010 or so. i was wondering if water leaks are covered?

it rained recently, not much and just a couple of days, but when i went out to my car the driver's side floor mat was soaking wet! has anyone else experienced this? i was shocked and dismayed at this situation - the car only has 24k miles on it.

any ideas?

thanks,
brian

Typically that implies a clogged sunroof drain. While I doubt it is covered under your extended warranty (but it never hurts to ask), it should take the dealership all of five minutes to clear so this isn't going to be a high $$$ repair..

thanks, that's a relief if that's what it turns out to be. hope so. love the car otherwise, has been a gem. oh, and it's actually a 545i, not 540i.....not sure what i was thinking on that.

it does have slight rattle/creaky noises when driving at slower speeds and the windows are up, seems to be coming from windows/doors. seems to go away at higher speeds (or maybe other sounds drown it out) or if windows down slightly. i have no clue what that's about or how to fix if possible.

best,
b

I have a 2002 540 wagon and the windows have always rattled. They finally admited that they knew about this problem but had no fix for it.

Nearly $4,000 for extended maintenance? Yikes! I'm thinking that's nearly twice as high (if not more) than any price that I've seen to date. Personally I'd take a pass.

Shipo
