looking for advice: I asked two of my local bmw dealership (NY.)service adviser's if they had experience dealing with Zurich (UUIC), they both acted as if they either never heard of the company, or they didn't trust that they would get paid for service's rendered. I got a very good quote from Sun Motor's for 5yrs. of comp. coverage on my E60, after the new car coverage expires, and I know that Zurich is quite a large insurance company, so why do you guy's think these service advisers are acting flaky when I ask them about it? could it be that they are simply trying to push coverage from company's that they use, and discourage me from using Zurich? All are welcome to chime in. Thanks

Seloo, thanks for your response. You seem to validate my suspicion that dealers push the companies that they sell warranties for, and therefore, covertly discourage the use of coverage from other companies, no matter how reputable that company may be. The dealer I purchased my car from pushes coverage from Fidelity, but Fidelity does not offer coverage longer than three years from the end of the new car coverage expiration point, I am looking for at least 5yrs. Guess I'll just continue to look around. |

Question for all: I am having so much difficulty deciding on whether or not to purchase an extended warranty after the new car coverage expires, I REALLY am begining to wonder if 2 to 3k for one of these things is really worth it. Can you guys (anybody and everybody) relate your experiences and reliability history with the E60. How many (and specifically what type, if any) mechanical failures have you guys had. I know bmw has a history of building mechanically sound vehicles, but with things like active headlamp systems, I drive, and NAV, I am concerned about how much a repair of a failure in one of these ELECTRONIC |

I have a '03 540i with 74K on it. I bought the Extended Maintenance and glad of it. It was around $1300 if I remember correctly and it's close to paying for itself now that the front rotors, calipers, and wear sensors have been replaced (got 74K out of them and the rear brakes are still org.). The Extended Parts/Labor Warranty was going to be just over $3200 and I passed. So far my only major out-of-pocket cost has been a new power steering pump for $860 so I'm still money ahead there. Time will tell! If the dealer likes a 3rd party insurance company - I'd trust them for a good savings. As for cashing in early: Extended Maintenance policy stays with the car if you sell it and you can't get reimbursed. Extended Parts/Labor Warranty can be refunded (pro rated of course).
