Replying to: 6sptl (Mar 09, 2007 1:00 pm) really? even around an r32? I seriously doubt it. I just love the passion and complete disregard for, well...anything in that statement. I agree it is excecution; the type r handles great apparently.(but there are no NUMBERS!!!!) I was just saying it would be nice to know what it would be capable of with dwbones or an indepenent suspension. And you whole 'space saving thing made no sense either and i have yet to recieve a response. Still no reasoning for your ideas that the regular civic rides rougher than a type r, as expcected, it was truly laughable. 92 has wishbones yes, but you can't compare such an old car to such new offerings. Compared to other econo cars at the time, it was quite the handler. This is a well known FACT. The fit handles great and has a torsion beam. And its cheap. No one is disputing that. But the civic is not a fit is it? And no other car in the fits class offers such low profile tires either. Couple the 'excecution' with an independent suspension and it might have been even better, thats all i was saying. |

I have NO IDEA why Honda pasted the "Type R" moniker on the Euro Civic as its not really a Type R. I wouldnt even call it an "Si" as it has a beam axle and its a bit porky. This goes entirely against what Type R stands for. Someone mentioned the R32.....I know the last generation R32 didnt hold a candle to the Honda Integra Type R (DC5). Sure it was fast but it didnt offer a pure driving experience and the suspension composure was really odd in mid corner. I hear this Civic Type R posted lap times nearly identicle to an S2000. Keep your R32! P.S. Honda, bring this car to the U.S!

| The JDM Civic Type R has the multilink double wishbone suspension, only the European Type R has the beam axle. | |

Replying to: hondacura4 (Apr 30, 2007 12:58 pm) that coming from a dyed in the wools honda fan. The integra type r was quick too, but it was still at the mercy of its fwd chassis. The previous gen. r32 offered and immensely pure driving experience, applauded by reviews and car mags and everyday joes alike. The reason i brought in a r32 was because one poster mentioned that NO VW could ever outhandle a honda. Such a stupid post, with so many variables. That would insinuate that a gti couldn't out handle your dads accord. Please. Save these posts for temple of vtec.(just like you can save the vw is the best ones for vwvortex. I happen to love and appreciate both brands.) Having said that, as much as i love honda's, the r32 was nice in that you didn't have to sacrifice anemities to get performance like with the integra. Me? i would have just taken a gsr. I have NO IDEA why Honda pasted the "Type R" moniker on the Euro Civic as its not really a Type R. I wouldnt even call it an "Si" as it has a beam axle and its a bit porky. This goes entirely against what Type R stands for. really? What makes it not a type r? The jdm version and the euro version weight about the same, so porkiness is out the window. Yes there is a torsion beam, which i could do without, but that civic is still a handler; a recent comapro of all the best hot hatches in europe (can remember the magazines name, it was some european one), named the edm civic the best hot hatch ever.(gti was second, mazdaspeed somewhere at the bottom and remember, besides the si, the other car getting lots of attention for its handling characteristics is the fit, and it is sporting the good ole torsion beam too. I love the styling of the hatch, its so ridiculously original. I do really enjoy the way the jdm type r looks too, since i've always been a fan of the new civic sedan styling and the jdm version is even better. Having said that, i would love for honda to bring over a full on type r such as this one, awesome brakes, the most amazing k20 of all time, and one of the purest driving experiences ever! A n/a that puts out OVER 100hp per litre! That is some major engineering. The fact that a n/a could put up similar numbers compared to the turboed competition is incredible!(as long as 8500 redlines are your thing! |

all i can say, is I WANT A JDM CIVIC TypeR!! wow thats an amazing looking car. as far as the r32 goes, i heard and saw a lot of magazines complain about its sloshy suspension... not nearly stiff enough to compete in its own price class (STi, Evo)... so it has to compete in the lower price class where the civic owns.. But a Type R that can run circles around anything else in class, and still have 5 seats to haul a family around in, AND have the hot looks of the jdm type R, would be a winner here in the states...

You know what? I can't understand why Honda can't sell their Type R cars to the U.S. with the exception of ITR late 90's. The U.S. is one of the wealthiest nations in the world. Honda are you listening to your fans????

Replying to: crinale (May 01, 2007 7:44 pm) i've never read or heard such a thing, the handling of the r 32 is wonderful, it offers a nice middle point between a luxury performance car and a high strung boy racer like the sti/evos of the world. just because it didn't perform as well as those cars, doesnt mean that it has to perform in a lower price class. i.e. the gti can near 30k, but you wont find people comapring it to evos... the type r does look amazing though. But i have a hard time thinking that it could be sold for anything less than 26, 27k, some people would be bothered by the civic nameplate ( i don't agree with this, especially since cars like the r32, mazdaspeed3, sti and evo are all just amazing versions of rabbits, 3's, imprezas and lancers.), and they would start thinking that an evo or sti would better suit their needs for best bang for buck as far as performance goes. Basically, honda thinks that only honda hardcores will buy this car, whereas people who don't particularly like subaru or mitsubishi will still be drawn to the sti and evo respectively, simply for the performance. But then again, thats why i think they should be very limited in number, i don' think honda would have a problem selling them in limited quantities, id buy one! |
