Why Chrysler couldn't have put an automatic in it... I hope the new owners make this a 2008 change - it would immediately make it a good option.   Oh - and I'd also outsource transmissions from GM. Replying to: plekto (Aug 16, 2007 6:27 pm) CVT's get better mileage than regular automatics. That's why Chrysler went with the CVT2. The CVT2 that they use is built by Jatco which is owned by Nissan.   Personally I like the CVT2 - once you get used to it. It's so smooth!!! Replying to: neely2005 (Aug 17, 2007 7:05 am) A good automatic will do as well as a manual now - withness Honda and others - sometimes even a bit better.   The CVT doesn't do a BIT better than the manual in terms of MPG, so it's a useless bit of junk because it robs low-end power and makes it a joke to drive in city traffic. But it is a bit more reliable than Chrysler's junk. Replying to: plekto (Aug 17, 2007 7:29 am) This CVT2 Transmission gets 5 - 10% better mileage than an equivalent Automatic. It's a great transmission. I never have any issues in city traffic or on the road. Sure it's not the fastest off the line but the Manual isn't any faster. It's just because it's a heavy vehicle - especially the 4WD. Do yourself a favour and rent a Jeep Compass or Jeep Patriot for a weekend and put some miles on it. It's one of the smoothest driving vehicles out there - especially for well under $20,000. Replying to: neely2005 (Aug 17, 2007 12:27 pm) Ive' test-driven it a couple of times and the manual is WAY quicker in traffic if you drive it properly(always keep it in the 2500-3000rpm range, minimum and so on)
