Replying to: neely2005 (Aug 16, 2007 5:14 pm) It's a tad better in first gear and LOADS better to actually drive. CVTs are largely junk. Why Chrysler couldn't have put an automatic in it... I hope the new owners make this a 2008 change - it would immediately make it a good option. Oh - and I'd also outsource transmissions from GM.

Replying to: neely2005 (Aug 17, 2007 7:05 am) The CVT doesn't do a BIT better than the manual in terms of MPG, so it's a useless bit of junk because it robs low-end power and makes it a joke to drive in city traffic. But it is a bit more reliable than Chrysler's junk. They should have swallowed their pride and bought a GM transmission like most of the European makers are.(like it or not, GM does make the best automatics currently)

Replying to: plekto (Aug 17, 2007 7:29 am) Do yourself a favour and rent a Jeep Compass or Jeep Patriot for a weekend and put some miles on it. It's one of the smoothest driving vehicles out there - especially for well under $20,000.
