Karol, I also live in the NY/NJ area. I am currently negotiating prices for an NAH with tech pack. What deal did you get and in what dealer? Also, do you find the navigation system worth it? I was thinking of getting a regular GPS like a TomTom or Garmin instead, I'm not sure if the other functions of the navigator are really that useful. What do you think is best and worst within the Tech Pack?
Thanks for your feedback!

it's not really the maintenance that is the problem, anyone can do that. it's just in case you have any problems with the car, that's when it will be tough.

so you've checked every dealer in the area?

"I AM IN THE MARKET, AND REALLY LOVE THE NEW ALTIMA HYBRIDS. I WISH TO BUY ONE, BUT THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP DOESN'T RECOMMEND ME BUY ONE-B/C THEY DO NOT SERVICE THEM."

That is odd. Most car manufacturers won't allow a dealer to sell a car unless they can service the vehicle. Are you sure they can sell you a hybrid model? Perhaps they just blowing smoke in your face, trying to get you to buy the normal version?

You might consider the Toyota Camry Hybrid (for a similar size), or one of the other hybrids from Honda or Ford.

The dealer in a state that can't order the hybrid directly, can trade with a dealer in another state who can. He can then sell you it, but he probably doesn't have a Nissan Hybrid Certified Mechanic.

I live in PA but bought mine at a dealer in New York 45 minutes away. Not really a bad drive.

AC Function and Acrid AC Smell by nmacmill01

When changing the air flow from top vents to floor, or vice versa, the fan cycles down, then back up. Normal?

I also have a slightly chemical smell when using the AC.

Any ideas?

Thanks

I never notice the fan cycling down, it could.

Is it a different smell than any other car you've been in? Mostly this is due to moisture in your vents and you get to smell the funkiness as the water evaporates

We've got lots of them in L.A. Just leased mine from Universal City Nissan -- largest Nissan dealer in the world. Plenty to choose from and a nice drive back, to boot. Ask for the Internet Manager. (Only way to go!)

Questions from a Canadian '09 NAH owner by cruiser1964

I live in Edmonton, Alberta Canada and just purchased a new 2009 Altima Hybrid and have two questions:

1) In the trunk, under the carpet, there are the outlines for where the jack and wheel wrench are kept. In addition, there is a cutout for a towhook that is used to screw into the front right hand bumper (should you ever become stuck and have to be pulled out).

I went through my car and it's missing the screw-in tow hook. I contacted my dealer and he told me that no cars come with this tow hook. I replied back (via email), that it's clearly shown on page 6-14 of the owners manual. I went into the dealership and the salesman even said that he can't get it through parts/service. Can anyone out there (who owns an '09 NAH), tell me if their car comes with this tow hook. If not, how did they go about getting it? (Why would a mfg. put something in their manual if they don't supply the part that goes with it???).

2) Gas mileage....I'm still on my first tank of gas and am kind of wondering about the mileage. In Canada, everything is in kilometers. When I left the dealership, the "range" showed 605 km. I'm down to almost 1/2 tank of gas and the range is showing 575 km. I keep running the numbers in my head and I'm not looking at very good mileage (for a hybrid). I owned an '06 Altima 2.5 and the mileage on my hybrid seems very similar to my '06.

Does the mileage get better on the hybrd. I only have about 250km on the car, but it's through almost 1/2 tank of gas and am wondering. It's been mostly city driving with about 50km of the 250 being on highway. Just a sidenote 1.6km = 1 mile.

Appreciate any feedback on the above.

thanks

1) tow hook.
I asked the same question, and received the same answer. They said it used only when importing the car (getting it off of ships and trains, I guess).

2) I didn't do the math to convert to mpg, but, this car requires a lot of "babying" to get 40mpg or better consistently. I suggest you check out one of the hypermiling sites to learn some of those techniques, if you are really interested.
