In the glory days of the American auto companies, vehicle sales reflected the weekend race results.
"A win on Sunday means sales on Monday" was a fact.
My dad owned a Plymouth Roadrunner 383 and a Chevy Impala 327. As a very young child I rememeber riding in a Ford 406 3 spd. column shifter - it would hit 95 in SECOND gear.
How much of a bounce in sales might occur as Toyota continues to grow their NASCAR programs? With the Camry being the sales leader so often as of late, maybe Toyota is just rewarding their legions of American customers.

The front grill and headlight decals on the Camry race cars will probably be the only link to the “stocker.” I’ve already seen aftermarket steel mesh front grills and special badging on ’07 Camrys. I’ll bet there will be a NASCAR themed Camry in the near future, much like DW’s Special Edition Tundras a while back.
The nostalgic days of moonshiners and the“run what you brung” cars used to transport the corn liquor favored from Darlington, South Carolina to Franklin County, Virginia spawned the NASCAR we have seen evolving for 50 years.
In nearby Martinsville, Virginia the son of former NASCAR independent driver Buddy Arrington runs a Dodge NASCAR Tundra engine development and assembly program.
When Toyota goes racing, they bring a unique blend of philosophy, marketing, and centralized engine development to every venue

I don't think its much a "Toyota" scandal. It is the team and the mechanics that F'd up. I'm sure Toyota doesn't endorse cheating.

To me, its like the baseball and steroids ordeal.......not a big deal that will get blown way out of proportion.

Also, a bunch of interviews have been going on and a lot of drivers have admitted to cheating and say they do it all the time and that a lot of people cheat.

Somebody once said there is no BAD publicity.
Waltrip and Toyota are all the media is talking about. With even CBS's Katie Couric doing NASCAR segments on the CBS evening news, I say its beyond the "saturation" point.

I find Nascar funny in general, as none of the cars have any parts (except for the stickers) related to any "stock" car. Imagine if GM, Chevy, Dodge and Toyota had to run "stock" cars? Who would win then?

Mike - I agree and for the life of me don't understand why the mfgrs. even support this - there just can't be a whole lot of folks out there that don't understand there is no relation to anything you can buy - but maybe PT Barnum was right. Who would win? Whoever had the most money and could successfully bend whatever rules got in the way!
