Article comments for First Drive: 2008 Dodge Avenger - The 2008 Dodge Avenger is still living with the burden of an old SNL skit by actor Will Ferrell. Don't believe us? Then say this aloud: "I drive a Dodge Stratus." Now scream it as if your hair were on fire. (more)

My R/T Rocks! This is a once in a lifetime Car guys and gals, so take good care of them. Maybe someday it will become a classic like the 66 Mustang or a 64 Chevy. My R/T is loaded and I am having the time of my life driving it. One thing though, trying to keep my foot from putting the pedal to the floorboard is like giving candy to a baby, just a little won't be enough.LOL!!!

Optima has benefitted from several positive reviews however it is a slow seller where I live. Perhaps one should look upon it as being a car one should keep a minimum of 5 years if purchased new.

Appears the 2.7 offered in Avenger/Sebring is an all-new engine totally different than the flawed 2.7 the Intrepid/Stratus etc. suffered with in the late 90s and up until 2004 or so.

Not a good sign when the avenger thread (not this one) has not had a post in 6 months!

Hey, Does anyone know what the cause is for the prodction delays of the RT. I ordered an rt with nav and esc 2 months ago and its not being built due to some delay. I cannot get any more details. Seems like dodge is trying to hide something.

Well I bought my 2008 Dodge Avenger R/T AWD today and love it. When I was shopping I was looking at only AWD cars for snow and tested some cars that were significantly more expensive as a result. I have to say this is one of the most well rounded cars I tested, especially for its price point. This car may have some hard plastic but it doesn't look particularly terrible. With the Mygig system it makes the car look especially cool. I suggest keeping the spoiler on, it adds character. So I guess I just don't get why Edmunds criticizes the car so much. Besides the blind spots I have trouble finding fault with my Avenger.

Help! My 08 SXT has only 6500 miles on it, and the tranny light came on yesterday driving to work on the freeway, shut off half way through the 15 mile trip, didn't come on again all day. This morning - same thing, tranny light on and shut off half way through. Gonna call the dealer but oh I hate to have problems so soon in the game!! Other than that, I love this car, it's gorgeous and so fun to drive (well it was).

took the first test of the rt into 3 digit land and was very impressed with handleing and the fact that it wanted more. this car really handles well at higher than normal speeds and gets you there plenty fast enough. it is the first car that i have owned that i still feel comfortable in at 100 and over. no problems yet with 5600 miles so far. just trouble with my itchy right foot.

My R/T has been put to the test recently, I took it from North Alabama to Florida and it held it's own with everything out there. It was hard to keep it under 90 mph. It cruised at 90 as easily as if it were 60mph. Take care of this car guys and gals it is a winner.

2.4 engine by mirde98

The previous gen Sebring/Stratus 4 door, the 4 cyl is not the same as the new one. Also the is not the same engine as the one of the Mitsubishi Galant. The new 4cyl is a GEMA unit co-developed with Chrysler, Hyundai and Mitsubishi. Only 2 door's prev gen Sebring/Stratus were actually Mitsubishi's built in MMNA Normal, IL plant. Kinda confusing....but actually quite different engines.

2008 Dodge Avenger Lifetime Warranty by kjc5

Many of us bought the New avenger in the first few months of '07, without the knowledge that Dodge would be offering a Lifetime warranty for it's 08 models. When the company announced that it was giving this warranty I was at first elated about the protection. However, after researching the particulars I've found out that not all 08's are covered free of charge. If you purchased your Avenger prior to July 24,07 your have to pay extra for the coverage. The Avenger is turning out to be a good car for me, but the company has disappointed us tremendously with it's greed. The added protection is going to cost an additional $700-$1000.

I recently emailed Chrysler about the coverage and this is what I got back:

"Thank you for contacting the Customer Assistance Center for DodgeŽ vehicles and thank you for your recent purchase. We are concerned that you feel penalized for buying your vehicle when you did. Your purchase represents an outstanding value that will provide many years of driving satisfaction. We regret that your purchase does not qualify for the Lifetime Powertrain Warranty, but appreciate having the opportunity to review the matter with you. We understand you want to take advantage of the best deal possible when purchasing a new vehicle and you most likely received the best possible warranty on the date of your purchase. Our special sales programs are intended to create goodwill with the buying public and to provide purchasers with an even better value for their dollar in a specified time frame. Inevitably, however, some customers feel penalized when they are unable to qualify within the guidelines of the program. We regret you were unable to participate in the program. Although we are unable to retroactively offer the Lifetime Powertrain Warranty, you may be eligible for our lifetime powertrain service contract. Please consult your selling dealership for further details regarding this Service Contract. Although a more favorable response could not be provided, we appreciate your sharing your concern with us. Thanks again for your email." Sincerely, Leslie Customer Service Representative Chrysler Customer Assistance Center
I think we go played by some greedy administrator. Why don't we qualify? Do we not own 2008 Avengers? Go figure!
