As a fellow Odyssey owner, the GM ads don't bother me in the least. In fact, I'd be disappointed if the domestic makers didn't try to convince us that they're better than the foreign competition. I trade my vehicles in very often, generally every other year, and I consider the Big Three every time. However, I haven't found another family vehicle that compares to the Odyssey (my fourth since 2001).

GM should try to make the argument that the Acadia, Enclave, Outlook, and Traverse are a better alternative. When I trade in my Odyssey next year, I'll be taking a very hard look at the Traverse and Acadia (especially since my wife will likely kill me if I stick her with another minivan!).

One thing that does bother me about the domestic makers is that prior to their recent difficulties, their prices were absurd. I bought my Mercedes C350 for about $5k less than the Cadillac CTS I really wanted to buy. Even the BMW 335 was less expensive. GM has to drop this dependency on rebates and offer lower total costs of ownership if they want to bring foreign car buyers back into the fold...

Great that you can trade every year. I am a retired senior so that's out of the question. Anyway it's good you did not buy the CTS as it has engine problems. I have a friend who is sorry he bought one. Two of my firends have MB M5. GM is talking about the VOLT but Honda says it's too soon for this techniology and Honda would not go there yet. Honda says the grandson? of the founder of Honda is taking over the company shortly.

Based on some previous posts it seems that 9-10k under msrp is in the realm of possibility for a 2008 SLT 4SA model. Does anyone have any recent experiences to share? I'll post mine once i pull the trigger. I'm in Ca.

Thanks,

My local dealer is advertising $15k off any remaining 2008 Yukon/Denali. Slim pickings, but $15K is a nice starting point.

Just got an 09 Acadia SLE for $6700 of MSRP in Florida. Very good deal, great car so far.

After waiting for a price drop in the acadia family for over a year my husband and I took advantage of the other car dealers not receiving my tax money who actually need to sell their cars. Though the dealer was desperate, there was just no support from GM to allow him to sell the car to compete with comps from other makers.
We liked the acadia from the start, and was always our first choice, but I just thought they were asking too much from the start. When we started looking over a year ago, salesmen just laughed when I said this, saying 'it's so popular, we can't keep them stocked' when I commented on its price. It's not like GM invested in a whole new system, they just don't get it that they can't make the same car 4 ways on the same chassis and make 30K in profit anymore. And I'm so mad that those high paid execitives are getting my money because they don't have any common business sense.
Anyway, off my soapbox...
We were not desperate for space, I just have two BIG dogs (newfoundland and st. bernard), and my little saab 9-3 is not quite the dog mobile, though they did love to ride in it. After considering price, what's included, consumer reports, edmunds, safety, etc., etc., we went with the Hyundai Santa Fe. Not a car I expected to like, but don't snob past the Hyundai dealership, it's not like the old hyundai. And that warrenty...can't beat that. My dealer also through in oil changes and Hyundai is practically giving those things away. It was cheaper for me to buy new than used.

If you're interested in that, you can look at my post in the prices paid in the Santa Fe section.
Best of luck to you all, but if you're like me and are willing to wait for a better price, you may just want to move on and take advantage of dealers who actually need to move product for capital.

Thanks for your help this past year!

Have to admit, I am astonsihed by GM's seeming disinterest in actually moving these cars. They are plummeting in sales and their idea of incentives is to offer price cuts only to existing customers? Whatever. I agree with emmers, I reallly WANT to buy one of these cars (been looking at all 4 of the cars on this platform) but am just befuddled with their pricing strategy. I'd love to buy american but they really don't seem to be making that a reasonable choice.

I'm amazed that GM isn't pushing them more myself. I think I posted here earlier that I wanted to buy a CTS when I sold my BMW. The CTS would have cost me $5k more than the Mercedes I ended up buying.

I really love the Traverse and Acadia, but dealers are only offering $3-5k off. That puts the price higher than the MDX (including special financing), Honda Pilot, Mazda CX-9 and even lower end ML350s and RX350s.

I want to buy American, but given the higher purchase price AND lower resale value, how can I justify that?

Yep- i wanted to buy an American made car (Acadia) but they can't even come close to the Honda Pilots Leasing money factor (.0014) and incentives...So i had to go with Honda.

Update: my local dealer just offered $8k off on his last 08 Acadia. Now it's only $39K--still more expensive than the highest price Pilot.
