What is this discussion about? Lexus LS 460, Sedan

Article comments for Follow-Up Test: 2007 Lexus LS 460 L - There's no sense in believing the 2007 Lexus LS 460 L should talk to you as you drive it, whispering about the romance of the road through the tingle in the steering wheel and the seat cushion. If you drop $80,000 on a big sedan, you don't want conversation; you want to be served. (more)

I hate to tell you, but motorweek will give a trash can with skateboard wheels a good review. It's an informational show. They don't want to make the manufacturer mad and miss out on getting cars to use in their show.

On another note, selling 3000 units in January alone goes back to what i said about mindless loyalty. This car is sooo understated that it should have a Toyota badge instead of a lexus badge.

an example: look at the seats in the LS460, mercedes S550 and the 750Li. the lexus seats are comfortable just like the seats in a toyota avalon, but if you look closer do you see any detail in the design of the seat? Now look at the seat the S550 and you will notice lots of detail and charcater in the seats and the same goes for BMW. Look at the interior of the Audi A8 and it's like looking at art. the lexus is a well made car, but it's plain jane. Some people like their cars that way, but if you are going to spend that kind of money on a car I would want to see more than a reclining back seat (like the scion Tc), a clunky looking audio system, and usless self parking( woe ethel look at this, my old buick couldn't do this).

136 feet for 60 to zero is unacceptable for a car of this cost. Lexus should put those bigger brakes on all the 460's not just the touring package.

LS 460 Sales Success by hendjaz

The Edmunds/Inside Line follow up analysis points out that the LS 460L has a “luscious interior”, that the car “makes life easier”, is an “ideal luxury sedan companion” and is the fastest extended length luxury sedan. All of which may contribute to the fact that the new Lexus LS is quickly the sales leader by a wide margin over its competitors, the Mercedes S, BMW 7 and Audi A8 series.

January 07 sales for the four luxury brands:
Lexus LS 460 – 3006
Mercedes S Series – 2078
BMW 7 Series – 1007 (down from 1466 Jan. 06)
Audi A8 – 305 (down from 516 Jan. 06)

Another huge factor that is influential to all car buyers is the predicted reliability of the cars. Consumer Reports ranks 23 luxury sedans for their predicted reliability based on most recent models analyzed (the LS and S are new models). The reliability rankings for these four luxury sedans are: LS = 1, A8= 14, 7= 18, S =22. Ranking of 1 is best and 23 is worst reliability.

These are the facts. Others may have opinions, to which we are all of course entitled.

the LS is also brand new while the 7 series is basically 5 years old. The S550 is newer, but not as new as the LS. The A8 has always been low volume and will never come close to the sales of the others. The LS will be snapped up for a while because the old car was more or less unchanged for a number of years and this car was highly anticipated. They will not be sustaining that 3k per month pace.

lets really look closer at reliability. it doesn't matter if somethings breaks or malfunctions on the car, it's about what happens after that. When you buy a BMW you major expense is gas and tires. if you opt for the extended maint. package the car is covered for 6 years or 100,000 miles. that's maint. too bro. Lexus does not do that. that is why BMW has the best resale value in the luxury car segment. BMW backs their product better than any other manufacturer. it may cost a little more money, but you feel confident in buying the car because you know it's covered. oil changes, brakes, even wiper blades. Lexus does not do that. you also have to understand that BMW and MERC do not focus on selling the S550 and the 750Li for it's the smaller cars that most people can afford. it's not that the S550 and 750Li are bad cars, you have to be well established to buy those kind of cars. not so with a LS460, at 61K that puts the car in league with the BMW 550i and the merc E550, which both of those cars are way more fun to drive. I bet those to cars sell more than the ls460. just something else to think about.
