Check out Michelle Krebs' latest column to see what manufacturers thought of the SOTU address. What do you think?

Please, Bush honestly could care less about our energy crisis. His entire administration has stock on the oil companies, and most countries have surpassed us in energy conservation in automobiles. So, Bush and energy conservation, dont make me . . . well I stopped laughing long ago.

The Prez zephyr_7, also has a good deal of money (millions) in the alternative energy segments so he might be a bit more serious than you and I think. He wants to go out more popular than he is now and has found a way to do it and make a buck. He'd sell the oil cartel down the river if he was going to make millions by offering no bid contracts to his new found green friends.

Is the issue whether or not BUSH really 'cares' about energy issues? Personally, I don't give a rip whether or not Bush really 'cares' about energy issues or whether he's simply trying to improve his 'popularity'.

The ISSUE is how the Automakers are responding to the Energy Initiatives (hence the title of this thread).

To that end, I think it's entirely predictable that:

a) The automaker's will all say they are in favor of being more "green" (although just what this means is a little difficult to pin down).

b) They all have somewhat different methods of being "green" (the better to differentiate themselves from their competition).

c) They'll all resist attempts by the Feds to hold their feet to the fire by raising the CAFE standards. And IF the CAFE standards must be adjusted, they all want to have their hand in writing the new rules to be most advantageous to their own company.

Not a bad analogy rorr. I think you and I found some common ground on this topic.
