Seems like you answered your own question, since you said you can see why the Tundra won.
 
  If you read the article, the answer is pretty clear.
 
  The drivetrain seemed to be the difference, to me. No scrubs from Toyota. Looks like GM nickeled and dimed right where a driver would easily notice.
 
  With such vehicles, confidence is a pretty big selling point, and the GM powertrain sapped their confidence, while Toyota inspired it. Big difference.
 
  The Chevy might be able to do everything the Toyota can, but it didn't inspire confidence.
 
  Went to the Auto Show this weekend, and was impressed by the styling, interior, damped tailgate of the Tundra.
 
  I don't think there is a comparison in style. The Chevy looks like it is targeting a older generation. Looks dated, and too conservative. Not 21st century style. The Toyota is stylish, without being cartoonish. I think Ford, Dodge, and Toyota all have style, where the Chevy lacks.

I think the word your looking for is "stodgy". The new Chevy is very, very, stodgy especially the interior. The 4 second lag in the engine, 4 speed tranny and the stodgy interior should keep those loyal 70 year old domestic buyers where the belong, with GM.
 
If anyone in this segment wants the biggest baddest truck, there is only one choice. The Tundra of course.

Well I was being sarcastic which I guess you didn't cattch.
 
If I take a GMC Sierra Denali and run it against a base 2WD Tundra in off roading, utility, luxury, quality, the answer is obvious who's going to win. The edmunds comparo DrFill was exactly like that. The Silverado wasn't a Z-71 version and lacked the LTZ's leather, navigation, and other nice touches. It was a apples to oranges comparo. The Titan also lacked it's top models trim

Well I suppose everyone else must of felt different as they named the Silverado North American Truck of the year. Anyone can win when they have one apple going up against oranges.

The Tundra looks like a glorified american "wanna be" truck. It lacks the warranty, interior quality, sophistication of the GMT-900's. The Sierra Denali, has a 400 hp 6.2 powertrain and can easily out muscle the new Tundra. The 400 hp. Vortec max 6.2 will be available this fall on the Silverado. I also hear nothing about a hybrid version of the Tundra. The Tundra also has that cartoonish 4 door non-crewmax cab which looks weird as the top rear corner of the cab looks awful. The crewmax looks better but will cost you more dough and why buy one over a Sierra Denali ?

Functionally, the Tundra's cabin is outstanding, with plenty of handy bins and that versatile center console, but the design of the instrumentation display wasn't universally loved. Nor was the Tundra interior's combination of silver, gray and black plastics that looked soft but felt hard. When we drove off-road, however, the Tundra's interior didn't attract nearly as much dust as the Silverado's nicer-looking cabin.
 
After piloting the Tundra, the Silverado gives the impression of tidier dimensions. It's a bit easier to step up into the Chevy's cab, so the lack of a grab handle on the driver side isn't an issue (although a curious omission nonetheless). The interior shares some of the basic style of the previous-generation GMT800 GM trucks, but almost none of that truck's cheap detailing. Overall, it feels like a right-size truck, perfect for all-around use.

No comparison is more "apples-to-oranges" than comparing the Sierra Denali to any 1/2 ton other than the Mark LT.

Nothing but the facts. You want the best powertrain, you'll be buying a Toyota 5.7 6 speed. GM can't touch it and that's a fact. Every publication knows it. GM rushed their truck to market to take Truck of the year with nothing in the market to compete with it and surprise they won.

The only engine I can find under the Denali at the GMC web site is a 6.0 liter Vortec 300hp, 360ft lbs of torque (performance package boosts it to 345hp). Hardly a competitor to the Tundra 5.7. They must be keeping that engine a secret. It's hard
to sell a engine when you don't even advertise it, or are you talking about some fantasy engine in the future. How much is the Denali with that engine? Base MSRP on a Denali even with that engine is $40,000 plus. You can get a 07 Tundra Crew Max 4x4 5.7 liter 6 speed for that. it's not even a comparison. Who in their right mind would even consider a Denali. That must be why they don't sell many.
 
Please tell me where this engine (That beats the 5.7) is on the GMC website.

Don't have a problem with the Silverado, from all reports it is splitting hairs to find out which truck is better. Some like the Tundra, some the Chevy. That's fine. I'm sure Toyota is more than fine with that!
 
   The NATOTY award didn't necessarily include test drives, or more importantly, tests on their intended-use like towing, and off-road.
 
   I'm not prepared to say the Chevy or the Tundra is the best. But Tundra is a prime suspect. And that's just fine by 'Yota.
 
   I sat in the Tundra at the Auto Show this weekend, and the Regular Cab is cavernous! And I'm 6'4". The door is like a barn door. And the interior doesn't lack quality, it is similar to other Toyota vehicles. It just has a funny paint scheme. It is original. Not better or worse than others, just different.
 
   What's important is it has passed Ram, F-150 and Titan, and now can sit at the table with the new Chevy, which had to pull out all the stops on.
 
   Toyota did a nice job, and Chevy did a nice job. I would buy the Toyota because it's better looking, and is at least as good dynamically.

Truck trend just tested the new yukon denali with the 6.2 engine. The truck looks nice it averaged 12.8 mpg on their test and requires premium. Engine is rated at 380hp & 417 lbft of torque. towing cap is 7900
 
The sierra denali is another story though

This 4 second power lag boils my blood. It’s sneaky and dishonest. This from a company fighting for its survival. They should be licking my boots to help them stay in business, not trying to screw me. As someone shopping for a new vehicle this year, I have to say that this hurts GM’s credibility a great deal for me. Even more so considering the unsuspecting suckers who will buy one expecting what’s advertised. Everyone knows that the vast majority of pickup miles driven aren’t hauling much of a load. In ordering a 6.0 liter we simply want a fast vehicle. Thankfully, the 0-60 numbers can’t lie. I would think they’re unlikely to do this with the Sierra Denali or Denali XL I’m interested in, or would they?
 
I’ve always been put off as well by GM as big brother. Big brother will turn your lights on at all times and big brother OnStar will know where you are at all times. It’s for your own protection. Toyota gives you a choice.
 
I’m also put off by the way they refuse to deal with the criminal way we’re treated by their dealers. They should set up sting operations on salesmen and mechanics and if necessary revoke the dealers’ right to sell their cars. They say they can’t do anything about it, but it’s a lack of motivation.
 
I’d like to buy American, but they still don’t get it. And, frankly the Tundra is built by Americans while my Dodge was built by North Americans but no Americans. Aside from the ugly dash, Toyota has simply gone all out to make a great truck.
