Article comments for Comparison Test: 2007 Half-Ton Pickup Trucks - For almost two weeks, we drove all three trucks in a variety of terrain including urban crush, freeways and gravel roads. We loaded and unloaded them, poked and prodded them, and even dyno-tested them. (more)

It seems like a pretty good review to me. I can't imagine that anybody could go wrong choosing either one of the trucks. Personal preference will definitely play a part in one' decision. I did find it a little perculiar that the Chevy had muted hp/torque scores during testing...

Where are the Ford and Dodge pickups? Have we just thrown in the towel and accepted the foreign vehicles, except the sacred Chevrolet?

Your recent test comparison between the 2007 Chevy Silverado "production model" and the 2007 Toyota Tundra "pre-production" model is skewed. In addition, the Tundra is not a true crew-cab whereas the Silverado is so how can you compare true performance figures, fuel economy, and capacities when the trucks are different from the start. The pre-production Tundra that you tested could have a been a ringer from the factory knowing the test was coming. How about a real world heads up test between a 2007 Silverado Extended Cab Z71 4X4 package sporting the 6.0L V-8 Vortec max against the 2007 Toyota Tundra Double Cab Limited (production model)? FYI I sell the GMC lineup not Chevy.

Replying to: Ravenone (Jan 24, 2007 12:40 pm) They stated up front that they were testing the ALL NEW trucks (Chevy and Toyota) in addition to the WINNER of the last truck roundup in 2004 (Nissan). Given the fact that the Nissan was a clear winner in the last comparison, and that neither the Dodge nor Ford are SUBSTANTIALLY different since the last test, is there really a point to including ALL the trucks again? |

Replying to: bigsexy2 (Jan 24, 2007 2:34 pm) Personally, I think they could have waited until production model Tundra's were available. And made a better attempt at testing more similar configurations. I noticed that both the Tundra and Titan were dogged for a stiff on-pavement ride and the Silverado praised.....while both the Tundra and Titan were equipped with stiffer off-road suspension packages and the Silverado wasn't. Go figure.... What I got out of the test was this: right now, the Chevy and the Toyota are at the top of the 1/2-ton heap. Personally, I don't think there is a clear cut "winner". Ultimately, purchase decisions will probably come down to personal preferences over minor things. Either one would be a good choice.

Let us see how the Tundra fares against a Sierra Denali with the 6.2L and 6-speed as soon as possible please.
