Murano is much thirstier in city driving. Still, the relative discount more than makes up for the difference in cost of fuel over the lifetime you expect. The question is, how long will you drive it, and could it even have a lower resale than the Rogue? Not a stretch given the sudden shift in buying habits which borders on hysteria. I personally think that from an emotional standpoint, the Murano is much nicer.

Not to mention the Rogue just feels too small to be all that useful. I'm not sure if it has any more useful space than a Versa does. Plus you can barely see out of it, the blind spots are so bad.
 
I kind of like the styling, but it's definitely form over function.
 
My wife thought it looked like an egg and never even sat inside.
 
The CVT and fuel efficiency appealed to me, but we were shopping for her car, so we never even drove the Rogue. I did sit in one at a car show.
 
The Murano is better sized, but to be honest I think if I had to buy a Nissan it would be a Versa with the 6 speed manual transmission, or maybe an Altima.

Let's wake up this thread a bit...what upgrades are here for 2009?
 
I read that the Traverse will get 288hp with the optional dual exhaust, plus the tow rating was just increased.
 
The CX9 supposedly got a trip computer standard, which to me is a must-have.
 
What else is new?

There are some new kids on the playground. Journey, Flex, yada yada. I'm sure everyone agrees those are upgrades.

Looks like it'll go in several Fords, I wonder if Mazda will get one for the CX9 as well?
 
$700 for 340hp sounds good, and it even runs on regular octane. The timing may be bad, though.
 
Also, I'm sort of more anxious to see what they could do to a smaller, more fuel efficient engine. Perhaps start with the new 2.5l used in the Escape. That makes about 175hp now, with twin turbos it could beat the Escape's own V6.

The Explorer America concept had, according to Ford, a 2.0L EcoBoost motor in it that put out 275 HP and 285 ft-lbs of torque. FE is improved 20-30 percent over the current 4.0L V6 in the Explorer.
 
Supposedly a 2.5L EB puts power output over 300HP but I've never seen anything "official" about that.

Oh, and the first one, the 3.5L V6, goes in the Lincoln MKS sometime next year. I think in the Spring. Anyone? No word on what will get the first I4 or when but they recently announced that they are accelerating those plans.

GM has had an Ecoboost being sold now, out for 2 years now, the 2.0L 4 cylinder, turbocharged, direct injection and variable valve timing engine. Direct Injection, Ecoboostlike click here The current GM engine gets 260 HP and 260 ft-lbs, two of the same numbers, similar to the 3.0L Freestyle V6, whose two numbers are about equal at 203 HP and 207 ft-lbs from a high fuel economy, no turbo, no direct injection engine. You can see how an even lower displacement Ecoboost engine could get the Freestyle HP/torque numbers. Also note the Mazda CX-7 is currently sold with direct injection, turbo, and variable valve timing, another Ecoboost look-alike. Ford's future take on this might have some mild innovation, but the tech has basically been out there a while now. VW and Audi are some more that have used direct injection, turbo, VVT. The key is to downsize the displacement so it just barely performs good enough, increasing MPG in the process.
 
Really the Ecoboost strategy is to put a 4-cylinder Ecoboost producing just over 200 HP, which a 1.8L size would do, in a place of a V6 in the Escape and Edge, and the next Ford Explorer, and it should get about 20/30 city/highway EPA rating with "just adequate" power.

rav4 or nissan rogue? by tigerlily3

I was about to lease a base 4x4 rav4 and then I went and test drove the base model nissan rogue. I thought the rogue's interior was far superior and it the ride felt fine (i didn't go too far or fast). I read some reviews about the rogue's CMT which deterred me from considering it. What are your thoughts? (the price is the same)

Concepts are a bit different, for instance that one makes 275hp/2.0l so a very high strung 137.5 hp/liter specific displacement.
 
The production 3.5l Ecoboost makes a down-to-earth 97 hp/liter.
 
I think an EcoBoosted 2.5l would make more sense, making perhaps 240-250hp or so.

Is that the engine in the Cobalt? Do you know if that runs on regular fuel, or is it premium only?
 
The Mazda CX-7 ran on premium the first year it came out, but then Mazda tuned the engine to run on 87 octane, with no loss in power output (at least stated).
 
If Eco means Economy, then I think it's important to tune those engines to burn 87 octane.
 
Of course Eco could refer to Ecology, in which case emissions are more important than the type of fuel it burns.
 
VW requires premium fuel.
 
Not many turbos are tuned for 87 ocante.
 
I agree with your just good enough theory when it comes to the performance.
