I've seen many posts about sales below MSRP on the CX9. What is the reason for this? Are cars in general just not selling so all dealers are offering cars below invoice, or is it something specific about the CX9? Thanks!

SUV sales are down - suffering from higer gas prices, next years model comes out 1st September - they are trying to clear inventory.

Here is why we can get a much better price

1) We are in a recession, so not many folks buying expensive Cars especially those that costs more than 30K
2) CX 9 sucks on gas so many who are fuel price conscious avoid CX9.
3) CX9 competition is much more reputed - Honda Pilot, Toyota Highlander and Nissan Muranos
4) 2009 model will soon arrive at dealer lot.

In summary dealers are desperate, but they don't show it to you when you negotiate. They just act. Never loose the big picture we have today when negotiating - Economy down, Gas price sky rocketing and these are not efficient on fuel

I'd say you got an amazing deal. Congrats.
I am curious what they charged you for the extended warranty.
After talking to friends, we are taking a CX-9 for a test drive this week.
Quite a change because we were looking at a used Caddy before this. But we keep hearing how slick th CX-9's are so....

Ceric. May I ask the name of the dealership in your local paper?
I'm not beyond traveling to get a better deal.
$100-200 of gas vs $6k is an easy calculation.
Thank you

We were charged $1961 to extend the warranty to 6 years, 100,000 miles, but it is meant to cover everything (supposedly) - the company (?) name for the plan was Portfolio. This was supposedly at the fleet/internet department discounted price - but that could have just been a line......

With all the toys we got on this car, we figured the warranty was worth having.

I used the MazdaUSA website to check the inventory of all the local dealers (and to find out which one had the colors and spec I wanted) and I asked through that website to get quoted on several cars from different dealerships to find out what they were willing to offer the CX-9 for - all were below MSRP, but some more than others - all of them said they would match other prices quoted by the other dealers.

I spoke to the dealer about the $6K off MSRP and they are not honoring these numbers for leases. Is that the deal at the dealers in the bay area or throughout the US. Thanks.

Thanks claireb for the info about the ext. warranty.

Good to know. Going for my first drive in the AM armed with info from Consumer Reports. BTW, anyone care to answer what is TTL and TTR? Did I spell those right? I keep seeing people here reference them.

And I put this on another post, but I'll ask it on this thread too.
Found a couple of CX-9's Grand Touring, tricked, under 10K miles, 2008 for under 30K. Being sold used. Carfax said they were "manufacturer's vehicles". I read back and forth on some other sites about how cars like this have been whipped like a rented mule. Others say its a bargain if they have extended warranty - which they do.

Any thoughts?

The best warranty deal I can find is
authorizedfordwarranties.com
They sell genuine Mazda warranty. I have not committed to purchase one yet.
I will wait till 1 month before my OE warranty expires.

TTL means = Tax + Title fee + License fee
In CA, tax rate is based on where you live, not where you buy the vehicle.

A lot of those manufacturers' vehicles could be
- loaners
- test-drive vehicles
Just be aware of that when you buy them.
