I have been talkin with 3 dealers in the Indy area on almost identical 08 CX-9 Grand Touring AWD. None of them are moving beyond invoice. What did you guys do to get the 9 - 10k off MSRP?

Just Bought a CX-9 Sport by Asia3

Hi All,

We bought a CX-9 Sport yesterday for $22,300, $8k less than MSRP. They would have come down more on a Touring model with moonroof. I searched autotrader.com to get an idea of what dealers were marking them down more, although they don't always advertise it in there. In general, it seemed the more they had on hand the more they were dealing. Jake Sweeney in Cincinnati, Ohio and Jeff Schmidt in Beavercreek, Ohio were both marking at least $8k off. If no dealer in Indy will deal, it might be worth the drive. You can check out the cars they have on hand on autotrader.

So far we love it!

Yes, here's what i got: (actually, only 8k off)

CX-9 touring 2008 -MSRP $36,140 (DVD and Bose)
Dealer discount -$7998 ($28,270)
TTL (MD 6% tax) = $2,093
TOTAL delivered selling price=$30,240
+0% APR for 60 months (with a down payment of $4500 my monthly payments come out to $429 a month.) If i didn't take the 0% APR, I would have gotten a little more than $10,000 off MSRP. (my credit score was 715)

This was from Castle Mazada in Silver Spring, Maryland. I called 4-5 dealers in the DC area and went to one other in Gaithersburg, but no one could come close to this price with 0% APR (the most they would take off was $2,000-$2,500)
The salesperson told me that they were trying to get rid of this particular car. and that's why i was able to get this deal...

seloo,
another helpful explanation of how the discounts work (ie timing, floorplan, etc) can be found in the CX-7 thread here: post 651 Granted this guy is not affiliated with Mazda (like Aviboy), but he did offer good info about why some dealerships can make aggressive offers, while others can't...

Deal or no deal by getinmycar

The deal is on an 08 CX-9 Grand Tourning AWD with GT assist, Tow package, Moonroof/Bose, Blind spot, and auto dimming/home link/Tep rear view mirror. MSRP is $40,310. I talked with the Sales manager today and right off the bat he quoted $31,700.. He said they have 15 of the same spec in stock and need to get rid of them. Is this a good price or should I go for another grand or maybe hit him up for the rear seat entertainment package or both? They have 15 of them so I guess I not not in a huge hurry.

Thanks

Im in indiana.. I think I may hold off till the end of the month.. Does anyone know when Mazda support will be gone for these 08's? I know the dealer incentive is now $5250. I just ran an auction report and these thing are only going for $17000 to $19000. So If you are looking at a used CX-9 that is what the dealer is paying at auction.

michael83 You are correct... I was trying to trade my 08 CX9 Sport FWD with 1100 miles on it, and here in Cali they are going for between 19-20K for above average vehicles at auction. Approx 15 of them (various condition) with under 10K miles went at auction in the past 3 weeks. However if you have a Touring or a GT with AWD you will see more than that. However, it really enforces what I should have done, and that is go for a used vehicle. If you get a certified used one at a Mazda dealer, and knowing what the dealers are paying at auction then, I could saved even more money.

Anyway lesson learned.

Note: Trade in values.... forget what KBB or NADA or even what Edmunds tell you what your trade in value is. Dealers will always look at the Manheim website to see what your particular car goes for at auction. I have now seen several dealers pull up that report to tell me how little my CX9 is worth... however their are 2 things they try and gloss over....
1) where the auction was held.
2) What the condition of the vehicle was when it was sold at auction

So if your dealer pulls up that report and the report shows a list of cars auctioned on the east coast and you are on the west coast, ask the dealer to tack on another 1500+ dollars to your trade in due, to shipping costs that it would take to bring it to his lot.... LOL

Also, the condition of these cars at acution can vary greatly, from salvage to above average..... so once again, press the dealer on that.

However at the end of the day, it all comes down to how much the dealer wants to move his car, as compared to having to sell your car once it gets onto the lot.
