Thanks to everybody on this forum. I just picked up a new 2008 CX-9 GT (14 miles on it) with GT Asst. Package, Moonroof and Bose, Blindspot Warning System, Roof Rails and Rack, and Wheel Locks for 30,015 out the door (including destination. There is no sales tax here), not including ~200 dollars in Oregon DMV fees . They didn't even haggle with me when I asked them to take 10,000 off the MSRP. I feel like I should have gone lower!

The salesperson told us at the end that this was only the second car she had sold all month. This was at Herzog/Meier Mazda in Beaverton, Oregon.

I had to go to a dealer that was 20 miles away from where we lived. The one that was closer did not have any '08 and another one maxes out at $8k. I live in the DC area and getting the $9k was pretty easy. We are getting the 10.5" removable DVD and Game Syste, installed. With the roof rak the price was $1600 and another $405 for the sat radio. I have no clue on the cost, I was comparing it to the cost of the installed unit.

Did you end up getting this deal? They are telling us that you can't get the discount only 2300 if you take the financing deals. I read where you are getting around 8000 off and the financing off. Has anyone got both on 2008's??

I got similar pricing about a month ago. 8.5k off MSRP for an AWD GT, and then added the DVD and Sirius.
I'm sure there was a little (or even $1k) left on the table, but I am very pleased with my deal and car. Dealers need to make some money too, and if I look at prices paid as receently as September, this is a great deal.

With a month on the car and a 600 mile round trip this past week, I am very happy with the CX-9. BSM is a nice option and the car handles really well for a vehicle in this class, and much better that what I experienced in test driving an Enclave, Highlander, Veracruz (also nice), and an Escape.

Aviboy,

Your input into this forum is valued.

We continue to see a number of great deals at $9, 10, and 11K off MSRP, and as you know, auto dealers seldom lose money on a deal. Please explain the Mazda to dealer cash arrangement that is underwriting these deals.

Thanks

2008 CX-9 AWD Sport by BCD31

Thanks to all who have posted here. The information is fantastic. This is my contribution to the board. After ruling out the Highlander, I decided to drop the hammer on a 2008 CX-9 AWD Sport:

$31335 base
$1760 bose/roof
$350 pwr seat
$50 wheel locks
$200 pearl white mica
$33695 MSRP
-$7695 discount
$26,000 plus tax, tag, doc

I learned that dealers have until Jan. 2 to report 2008 sales. Shopped around to one other dealer who had my first choice (white AWD Sport), and they would not go beyond $7k off, so I landed at my current dealer who went another $700. I thought this deal was good seeing that it is a base/sport, and most of the larger discounts are coming off of loaded GT's.

Hope this info helps someone, and thanks again to all who have contributed here.

seloo-

I can really only speak for my region (North East) because programs and dealer pay plans can differ from region to region. In some cases, I really do not see how these deals were made, because the incentives and payouts do not reach that total amount of discounts being applied

Most of the higher discounts that we see near $10K are on the GT models. The biggest discount I sold on a CX-9 was $8,500 which was a GT w/ GT assist package and it was to fill out my month.

Mazda did not pay out stair step money for November and December, which is bonus money paid by reaching a sales objectives.

There is a $4,250 dealer engagement on all 08's. Holdback is between $500 and $700 on CX-9's. Mazda does not pay the dealer if special financing is taken.

In a lot of these cases, dealers are taking a loss just to move old inventory because most dealers do not own their cars outright. They are on "floor plan" meaning they pay interest on them, so sometimes taking a loss will prevent payout further interest, and on these CX-9's, the interest is quite high because of the value of these cars.

From what I have witnessed from most people here getting these $10K discounts are that they are being made by dealers who have many of these CX-9's in inventory. I only have 1 left, and have no desire to lose money on it, because it will sell.

I have had a couple people looking to buy a CX-9 for $10K+ off, but, I am up front in saying I will not discount that much. If they like my car, I will give them my best deal. If it does not work for them or they think they can do better, I wish them luck. No hard feelings. I don't mind selling a car for invoice, but, I would like to earn my holdback, because I believe I am entitled to that money. These days, I need that money.

One thing I hear a lot of is when customers say "the market is terrible" and assume they car rob the car. I don't get mad, because in theory that is a logical thought. However, I cannot stay in business doing busines that way. My response is "you must be doing ok, or you would not be looking at a $40K vehicle". I usually get a chuckel from them.

I'm sorry I went off on a tangent, but, in reality, there is not much hidden earnings on these cars, and with dealers selling them at $10K+ discounts, they are most absolutely losing money for that transaction. I refuse to do business like that because my store would close. I have found being up front about not discounting $10K+ and winning the customer over (something I'm great at, not to toot my own horn...hehe) is the best way to do business. It has worked, because I only have 1 '08 CX-9 left.
