I was quoted $26,900 for a new 2008 brilliant black CX-9 GT with wheel locks and blind spot monitor (List $34,255). Is this a good deal? should I push for more? seems to be only $7k discount when others speaking of $10k. Thanks in advance

Replying to: 1tester1 (Oct 22, 2008 5:38 pm) Just given a $30K offer online to a dealer in MA for a Stormy Blue CX-9 GT with wheel locks, GT assistance package (navi and camera), moon roof, and towing package. MSRP is listed at $40k. I wish it has blind spot monitor, but it doesn't. The car has been "on sale" online for more than two weeks. I am actually not that crazy about the GT assist. package because of the not-too-great review about the navi (resolution) and the usefullness of the backup camera. Will see what happen. If I don't get that, I will counter withanother offer -- $27K for another CX-9 GT minus the GT assist package but has the blind-spot monitor. Comments?

Our local dealer had two of them with nearly 6000 miles on the odo. If your dealer tries to blindside you all the way to the where you sign the odo statement, my hint is: let it slide and act surprised when the moment comes, it is yet another chance to threaten to walk away and another chance to get more discounts. If the dealer insists on it being all the same, let them spend all the time they need to make their case and then transfer the same offer to an equivalent unit without the mileage. It works all the time. The navi resolution is great on mine, and it is super simple to use (I work with computers though.) It just guided us back and forth on a 100 mile stint to a remote farm. The backup camera is indeed useless, but I think it may be a matter of getting used to it after 20+ years of looking over my shoulder while backing up. The BMS is almost a must in this car though. The rear-right corner is a liability if you have someone sitting on the right of the middle seat. $27K would be an excellent price for your alternative, but bear in mind you are taking away $3K from the table for roughly $2.3K worth of options (2500 - 200) . Combined with the lower vehicle value, you are trying to go from a 25% discount to a 30% discount. At that point they may try and steer you towards a $25K Mazda5 GT. |

Sorry for the Mazda dealers reading this, it *is* a wonderful vehicle, but with 18mpg, high gas prices, a set of tires costing nearly $1K, and this economy, very few people are going for a near-luxury SUV.

Replying to: nastacio (Oct 23, 2008 1:43 pm) CX-9 is a wonderful car. But with the gas price and the economy, this car moves up to the luxury category, at least for me. Also I think 20-25% off from a inflated MSRP at the last days of a model year is not unreasonable. Besides this dealer (and others around here in MA) consistantly has 18-19 of '08 models CX-9 in the lot, accordingly to the mazdausa inventory website. I think I have more time to wait than this dealer has. |

I have a dealer offering me S plan on a $40,845 CX-9 (2008). This drops $3100 off the price to $37,700. If I am buying, she says there is $5,000 of cash from Mazda which takes the car down to $32,700. Is this Mazda cash how everyone is getting these quotes of $7-10k off? I don't see it on the incentives page. If I want zero percent for 5 years, the $5k goes away and the payment is $685 per month, which is $38,800 for the car before sales tax. What gives? Seems really high. Oh, and a 39 month lease with 15,000 miles per year had, get this, a 44% residual value!!!! $564 a month for an '08? I don't think so. |

Just to add to the common theme here, I am not getting close to $10k off MSRP that other Houston area members are getting. The offers I am getting is between $3.5k to $8.4k off MSRP from the same dealers that were reported offering $10k off from other Houston area members. I guess all Mazda dealers decided to hang tough. Not exactly sure what are they thinking. The stock market is crashing. The housing is going down. The cars are just getting older as days go by. Do they honestly thinking that time is on their side? Anyway, I am going to wait for November 11th. That is when the newest issue of Consumer Report annual reliability report will come out. If CX-9 is ranked below average, bye bye CX-9 and hello Highlander. |
