The salesman told me that he would get me any color (exterior/interior) combination in any trim level and it would only take one day. I was a little surprised. I had been using mazdausa.com web site to look for inventory at each dealership. I had always under the impression that each salesman can only sale their cars on their dealership lot. Clearly, that is not true. Do any of you know if there is a central Mazda depot in Houston that any salesman can get any CX-9 they want? I also wonder if I would be able to get a good deal if the car is not from their lot?

I think its pretty common for dealerships to trade vehicles btwn one another, so the fact that they can get what you want does not surprise me.

Regarding a good deal, I would stay firm with whatever numbers you're expecting, whether it's in stock, or they trade for it. I suppose they can always say, "the discount only applies to vehicles in-stock". But I would call BS on that!

I also had 1 mfr (Subaru)/dealer tell me they could get any car for me, but it would cost an add'l $100 to get it to the dealer. This sounds a bit more realistic to me.

Regarding preference, I did not sit in the GT. Did not even look at them, as I was trying to get out for as little $$ as possible. I would hope (& expect) the GT to be nicer than the Sport... roughly $4000 nicer, to be exact!

Good luck with the decision!

What do you guys think about the interior difference between the Sports, Touring and Grand Touring?

The GT & Touring's interior are pretty similar - only real noticiable difference would the leather and gauge illumination. The Sport model comes with a cloth interior - IMO noticiable diff in feel.

Provided that one is available within a certain search radius

They can trade an existing inventory car with another dealership, provided the other dealership is willing to do a trade.

lockloop,
Some dealers would charge you extra for having to get the vehicle from another dealer. Don't buy that story. My dealer wanted to charge me $500 for it. I said NO. He backed down to $0. However, it put 50 miles on the odometer since someone drove it for 50 miles to my dealer. Anyway, don't let the salesperson charge you extra for it. In the worst case, tell him/her that you will go to that dealer directly and bring your business there. You can get on MazdaUSA.com to search inventory of all dealers. The time lag is only about 1 day or 2. After I bought mine, I saw my vehicle (by VIN) disappeared from my dealer's online inventory the next day!

Again, thanks for all your replies.

I have another question.

sel0511, derrickson, and others,

Both of you got the Total Care MEPP 10 years/100k miles from Russell Smith. If I recall, derrickson got it for $1300 while sel0511 got it for $1450. But what are the deductibles for your plans? I went to the internet and see that prices are different for different deductibles.

thanks,

The semi-fire 08 CX-9 sale by fishhoppa

The semi fire sale is about to begin in Norcal! Some dealers are offering 10k off loaded GT's and just saw an ad for a sport FWD - no options, for $22500, representing ~7.5k discount from an msrp of $30050.

Does anyone think it might be a possibility that discounts for loaded 08 GT's might edge upwards of $12 to $15k closer towards the end of the year? or will the dealers just let them sit in inventory?

As sad as it may be for such a refined and interesting vehicle, I can see $12K discounts towards the end of the year. Local dealers have not ordered 09' models. Some have stopped ordering loaded 08 GTs since May.

I don't like seeing businesses losing money, but $10K discount for loaded 08 GT's is just the norm right now.

hi lock,
to be honest, we did not discuss deductibles when i purchased it! that said, while i was doing some 'buyers remorse' after-the-fact pricing, i learned the $1350 price i paid has the $100 deductible. i think the same 10/100k with no deductible was around $1800-ish. whatever it was, i remember it was significant!

No. Some dealers still have a 2007 or two lying around. They will sit on a car for a long, long time before they go up to 12k, 15k is fantasy.

There are no more 2008s being made. If you want one that does not seem to be common, you may miss out. Then again, we haven't seen yet what the prices are going to be on the 2009s. Should be interesting.

The pricing on the '09 CX-9's is already out there. Prices are up about 1.5% from the '08 model year. Discounts in this area on '08's are running about $6,000. I got a quote on an AWD 2008 CX-9 Sport with power seat option. $25,100. Very tempting!

From MSN Autos:
The 2009 Mazda CX-9 receives updates including Bluetooth phone compatibility for CX-9 Sport, heated seats and outside mirrors for Sport with Power Seat Package and trip computer standard on all trim levels. The CX-9 Grand Touring now includes an auto-dimming rearview mirror with Homelink and SIRIUS satellite is included in the Moonroof BOSE Audio Package and Rear Seat Entertainment System Package.
