rob,
Rain Sensing is standard on GT, I believe.
Auto-dimming mirror is an accessory which is independent of rain sensing. The fact that the root (attaching point to the windshield) is located together with rain sensor makes it confusing.

I installed the Auto-dimming+Homelink+compass mirror myself. Parts+kit bought at mazdaparts.org ($0 shipping & handling). It comes with instructions.
Read this for reference...

Thanks again.

From what I read in that forum, many complain about the wire showing and not looking factory. Any comments on this?

ceric,

thanks for your help. I went to that site, it even has a video instruction on how to install the hidden hitch on a CX-9. The procedure seems very simple.

If anybody else know how to install the wire harness thing next to the hitch, please let me know.

I thought about installing the wiring for towing, but I really don't use that. So, I gave up. I did found some T-connector wiring for CX9. Search the web (eBay, eTrailer.com, Amazon, etc.) I saw one with installation instruction. It did not seem that difficult, but you might need to take off the rear bumper and run the wires all the way to the front engine bay. Good luck.

No wire showing. Some people used the wrong kit. Workers at the port also made mistakes too. They are humans. There are a couple steps that you need to be careful, and might be challenging, but it will be fun when all is done. That is why some enjoy DIY. Save $$$ and have fun. Even if you broke somethings (try not to), cover/fix it up and don't tell your wife.

I suggest that we take these accessory questions to another thread. I will answer them as much as I could.
Let us not hijack this one ("buying experiences").

I got a lot of good information from posters here. Thanks.

I went to a Mazda dealer yesterday. I didn't intend to buy a car. I was just looking and feeling around.

I intended for a base Sport 2008 CX-9 with no option. But when I sit inside a grand touring, I was overwhelmed by how luxurious it felt for the interior.

What do you guys think about the interior difference between the Sports, Touring and Grand Touring?

The interior for the grand touring is amazing. Unfortunately, I was not able to try out the interior of a Sports model because the stupid salesman can't find one on the lot.

As impressive as the interior looked, I was not impressed with the exterior paint scheme.

The Black Cherry Mica looks like dark gray rather than purple as seen on Mazda's web site. The Copper Red Mica looks like a dull red rather than fiery orange red as seen on Mazda's web site.

My wife was very disappointed (this car is for her).

But later on, one of my friend told me to go back to the dealership to look one more time in a sunny day. He told me that some cars looks very different between a cloudy day and a sunny day.

I will let you know my experience when I go back.

The salesman told me that he would get me any color (exterior/interior) combination in any trim level and it would only take one day. I was a little surprised. I had been using mazdausa.com web site to look for inventory at each dealership.

I had always under the impression that each salesman can only sale their cars on their dealership lot. Clearly, that is not true. Do any of you know if there is a central Mazda depot in Houston that any salesman can get any CX-9 they want?

I also wonder if I would be able to get a good deal if the car is not from their lot?

I think its pretty common for dealerships to trade vehicles btwn one another, so the fact that they can get what you want does not surprise me.

Regarding a good deal, I would stay firm with whatever numbers you're expecting, whether it's in stock, or they trade for it. I suppose they can always say, "the discount only applies to vehicles in-stock". But I would call BS on that!

I also had 1 mfr (Subaru)/dealer tell me they could get any car for me, but it would cost an add'l $100 to get it to the dealer. This sounds a bit more realistic to me.

Regarding preference, I did not sit in the GT. Did not even look at them, as I was trying to get out for as little $$ as possible. I would hope (& expect) the GT to be nicer than the Sport... roughly $4000 nicer, to be exact!

Good luck with the decision!

The GT & Touring's interior are pretty similar - only real noticiable difference would the leather and gauge illumination. The Sport model comes with a cloth interior - IMO noticiable diff in feel.

Provided that one is available within a certain search radius

They can trade an existing inventory car with another dealership, provided the other dealership is willing to do a trade.
