Are you near Hayward Mazda? We got a really good deal through the internet department with them

Hi Claireb - Missed seeing your note earlier.(sorry). I havent been to Hayward Mazda yet. Just checked the mazdausa inventory system and it says they have 31 08 cx-9s sitting in inventory. Gotta be wondering when the fire sale is going to happen cause those '09s are already showing up on the mazda site. Going to wait until end of month and see what's advertised in the papers.

Thanks for the heads-up!

I took delivery of a CX-9 08 GT yesterday. $30K for a GT (gt package, rses, remote start, roof rail, blind spot, wheel locks) listed for 40K. Raleigh-NC area.

It only had 7 miles on the odo and was manufactured on Feb/08, so I can understand why the price drop. I am not a good negotiator, but my wife not wanting the car made all the difference (long story, she is happy now that she drove it back home.)

There were a couple of units "used by the owner's wife" with 5000+ miles on them, where I believe one could try and go for $1K or $2K less.

For the experts here,

I am trying to find a white CX-9 with only two options, the roof rail and a towing package. I use the mazdausa site to look for inventory. I expand my search to 250miles and is still not able to find one car with these combination. My questions are

1. can the roof rail be installed by dealer? or installed by third party? Will that cause leaks if installed by third party?

2. Does the touring or grand touring have roof rail as its standard option?

3. Is the towing package includes bigger radiator, etc., in addition to just a hitch?

4. Can the towing package be installed by the dealer? I assume the towing can be increased from 2000lb to 3500 lb?

5. Does the touring or grand touring trim have towing as its standard option?

Thanks a lot for your response

1. It most certainly can be installed by a Mazda dealer. In the Mazda website, check "Shopping tools -> Accessories". I believe it is $250 + labor and I am almost sure it doesn't seem to need any drilling as it gets attached to standard latch points in roof.

2. Neither has it standard

3. Towing package also includes a larger transmission radiator and remapped engine module.

4. I doubt it.

5. No, it is not standard on either. It is a $500 option.

lockloop,
My answers (slightly different from other's)
1. The installation of roof rail is very easy. It took less than 20 minutes. Anyone that can use a screw driver can install it. Watch out for the trim pieces. Don't snap them on with brute force. No, it does not cause any leak since the existing holes are covered by plastic pieces. It is not better or worse.
2. Roof rail is an accessory to all models (try mazdaparts.org for best price)
3. Towing package includes
   - larger transmission cooler (not larger transmission)
   - larger capacity of radiator
   - towing hitch and wiring
   - remapped programming to handle towing
4. No. Too much work involved. No dealer will do it for you.
One can install an aftermarket hitch easily (30 minute job with ~$150 cost)
5. For 2009, the tow package is now standard on GT AWD model

auto dim mirror clarification by robjamell

I am buying a 2008 GT AWD and I am confused.

Does the vehicle come with an auto dim mirror standard?

Also, when I look at mazda accessories, I see the mirror can be added, but then it says something about rain sensing.

Can it be installed by the dealer and work&look exactly the same as if installed by factory?

Can someone set me straight on the auto-dim, homelink, rain sense?

thanks
Rob

No. The standard back mirror has neither.
It is an accessory that one can have it installed at port and delivered to the dealer (accessories are NOT installed by Mazda, they are done at the entry port). One can also buy the kit and install it oneself (like me). Try mazdaparts.org for best price.
The installation is about 30 minutes. It is slightly more involved than the roof rail.

There are many different combinations of autodimming, Homelink, compass. Again, go to mazdaparts.org (click on CX9 tab, and then, electronics). Each model needs an installation kit (the kit must matches the model you buy). If your vehicle come with rain-sensing (I assume it is GT), then, you would need a kit that can accommodate rain sensor, which is next to the back mirror.

Auto-dimming: (run on switch 12V). It dims down the mirror when the difference of lighting between front and back is big. It can go very very dark to avoid glare.

Homelink: It can learn the codes (jumping or not) of your garage openers so that you don't need to carry then anymore. The Homelink runs on constant 12V (not switched - i.e. engine power needs not be on)

Compass: some models of back mirrors also have an electronic compass (show 8 directions, N, S, W, E, SE, SW, NE, NW).

Rain sensing: the sensor to activate wipers is located at the root of back mirror. Other than that, it has nothing to do with back mirror.

I hope this helps you a bit.

Thanks a ton! Helps a bunch.

So is rain sense standard on CX9 or only if I get the autodim mirror?

Basically, I can find vehicles with the options I want other than the homelink. I don't mind installing myself, but I don't want to loss any options like the rainsense.

Not sure if rainsense is installed if you don't get the mirror option from the factory.

Ceric and Nastacio,

thanks for your answers. I guess I am not going to order the roof rack option since I can install it myself.

For the towing option, I don't see any dealer has many CX-9 with that option. Ordering a CX-9 with a towing option will severely limit my choice of the dealerships, and therefore, limits my ability to negotiate prices.

With the factory towing option, I can tow 3500lb. Without it, hopefully, I can tow 2000lb. It shall be ok for a small boat (like 16 or 18 feet aluminum jon boat with trailer). But I still need the hitch and wire extension set.

I did some checking, and I find the following place that sells hitch specifically for CX9. See the following web site:
link title

It even have instructions and it can be found here:
link title

The instruction seems extremely easy. However, it only covers the hitch. It says nothing about the wire extension. Does anybody know where can I can the wire extension and if CX-9 has the wire pre-routed to the back of the car?
