When you negotiate online between several dealerships, do you forward the email from one sales person to another to prove you have a better deal? I wonder if that is something ethical to do. I lives in Clear Lake city, I am not going to Russel and Smith to do any repair work. Therefore, I don't think that extended warranty will do me any good. But why do you feel the need to pay extra for the extended warranty? Is it because you think Mazda's reliability is not that good? thanks

I usually keep my vehicles 8-10 years, that is why I got the extended warranty. Never owned a mazda before, only time will tell their reliability. As for forwarding emails, only Joe Myers and Clear Lake Mazda wanted me to prove it. I sent them the offer. I don't see it being any different then driving from dealership to dealership with written offers.

Replying to: sel0511 (Oct 11, 2008 8:24 am) I concur with all the comments Sel provided. I did shop various dealers via email, etc, but R&S actually posted a 1/4 page ad in the Houston paper that I was going to get them to follow through on. The offer they advertised was better than any quotes I had received. I did not mention the ad when I arrived, but the sales person offered the same info upfront in-person, so no haggling was req'd. re: financing - I did not finance, so returned to sign / take delivery w/ a certified check based on the initial sales paperwork... Did this just in case they tried to pull any last minute monkey business ("btw, we add $500 to all cars for Lojack, etc"). I was fully prepared to turn around and walk out. Turns out the paperwork went off w/o a hitch. sel~ Definitley looks like they played games with the APR / Warranty price. Their warranty pitch to me was, "If you buy warranty tonight, we'll discount the warranty to $100 over cost, or $1300 for the 10 yr/100K warranty." I figured that comes out to about $130/year to cover pretty much everything, so I pulled the trigger. Plus, the warranty is transferrable, so will help should we go to sell. I shopped the warranty online afterwards, since we have 2 days to cancel. Turns out dealers offering "discounts" on the warranty were all around $1300, so I think the price R&S offered was in the hunt. Also looks like the warranty price fluctuates with financing. |

Drove by Capital Mazda in Raleigh today, a row of 20 CX-9 in various trims had "up to $8000 off MSRP" slapped on them. The inspection stickers on the windshields are showing that all of them have been sitting on the lot for over 6 months now. That was curious since I would have hoped to see at least some units with a sticker from Aug/Sep/Oct, but none. Maybe people are giving preference to buying the more recent units, or maybe Mazda just stopped delivering them after the dealer ran out of space on their lot, but my question is whether anyone knows the effect of leaving a vehicle exposed to the elements without regular usage or special care (leather surfaces, interior exposed to 100o. sun throughout the entire day with closed windows, stale engine fluids, electronic parts, exterior pain, dried up tires, etc) ? I know $8K is a lot of money, and I know there is warranty, but I wonder if it may be sufficient to compensate for whatever "damage" is being done to those vehicles sitting there for so long.

Replying to: nastacio (Oct 13, 2008 5:17 am) issues with sitting out on the lot? only one comes to mind.... a possible dead battery that needs a jump. $10K? that is going to be some negotiation. i disagree... I have had numerous offers from dealers for $10k off msrp on remaining 08's. This may vary regionally, and by dealer, but this offer required NO negotiation. I guess they will only be that desperate by November, when the 09s start to roll in ummm.... 09's have been on the lot now for about a month or more! And yes, the same dealer(s) who offered $10k off 08's were/are also offering incentives on the 09's.

Replying to: derrickson (Oct 13, 2008 6:39 am) That is curious, because this dealer no only didn't have *any* 09's in stock, but the 08's were all from April and May. Can a dealer put a stop on new arrivals of a certain model? I know they all come by sea from Japan, so I guess it would make sense. As for the issues with car sitting on the parking lot, I did more research and some car magazines pointed the dead battery you mentioned, which may need a replacement after so many months (long periods of discharge tend to ruin batteries). They also mentioned "squared off" tires and the problem of "dried up" tires on the inside because the rubber is not flexed by regular usage. The other thing that comes to mind is oil change, since motor oil is supposed to expire by mileage or time, usually six months. Battery and oil changes are minor, but the 20" tires on a GT cost about $1K a set, that is the part that worries me the most. I believe the paint comes with some sort of protective thick coating, not so much with the insulation in the door guards and the internal surfaces baking in the sun. I'll go for the $10K and see what happens.
