His original quote was for 7000 under MSRP for a pretty basic Touring model. He came back saying he may be able to get $500 more. I needed more like $1500, so we'll see what happens. Was curious if Mazda gave another $1000 or so and he was keeping some for himself.

I'll reply to myself. Ended up buying a GT with Bose/Sunroof for 8500 under MSRP at a dealership in Cincinnati. Very easy to work with and a fairly smooth process once we agreed on the price.

Congrats dooky! I had exchanged emails with several dealers in Houston for the past couple months. A couple had offered $9 - 10K below msrp, but never had anything firm with them. $8500 sounds right in the hunt.

Just bought a new 2008 CX-9 GT MSRP: $34,205 for $10,000 off. It was $25,947 out the door. Very easy transaction, asked for best drive out price and was told pick any CX-9 on the lot, take $10,000 off and add TT&L. It was that easy, no hassle. Dealership was Russell and Smith. Dealt with Internet Sales manager Roy Howard. Very happy with it.

Congrats! It's pretty amazing how the TX area dealers are offering 10k off msrp for any 08 CX-9s. The dealers up here in Northern California will only go that route with a few fully loaded GTs. Anything below a GT seems to only get you max approx 6000 to 7000 off msrp - and that's with the Costco buying program.

Why aren't they serving the Kool-aide up here in Norcal?

Congrats sel0511... I had almost the exact same experience with them a couple days ago, but on the CX-7.

"Pick any 08 CX-7 we have, and take $7K off." Ended up with a base sport for $17K + TTL! As simple as that. No reqd add-ons, etc. Was in-and-out in less than 30 minutes!

Curious, did you opt for the Total Care MEPP? I went ahead and did the 10 yr / 100K for $1300. For add'l accessories, I purchased from Med Center Mazda on the net. They sell for 22 - 25% off list, and no tax / free shipping.

On parts and accessories, Wayne Mazda may actually have better prices than Med Center Mazda. However, if you take S&H into account, the latter may be cheaper. So, it makes sense to cross shop both sites. Just FYI.

Hi derrickson and sel0511,

I am in Houston and is looking at a CX-9 also. Congratulate on your new cars. Just a few questions.

1. Did you just go to Russell and Smith and ask for Roy Howard? or did you ask them to bid though internet first?

2. If they offers $10k off the MSRP, didn't they inflate the MSRP first?

3. How do you know if any new cars in Houston had not being flooded before due to the hurricane ike?

4. Mazda is also offering 0% financing for 60 months. To get the $10k off, I assume that means you can't get the financing deal. Do you have to buy with cash? Can you borrow the money from your bank?

5. How reliable do you think this car is? consumer report has average to below average while JD Power has a rating a 9. Which one do you think is right?

thanks for your answers,
